I need to get my tow dolly moved from here in Austin up to New Jersey. I need to pick up an '89 K5 Blazer for my son and am going to use it to tow an '82 Z28 back to Texas for my father. A high school buddy of mine made me a heck of a deal on them both, clearing out his toys.

At nearly $4 a gallon I can't afford to tow the dolly up there behind my wagon and then drive my wagon back, plus pay gas for the Blazer with the Camaro in tow to get everything back to Austin.

Any bright ideas on a cheap way to get the tow dolley to NJ...or even Pennsylvania...?? I have friends in Harrisburg and could go get the dolly there.

A plane ticket up and gas home in the Blazer I can swing. Renting a dolly from U-Haul there is $450....ouch....and I'm not finding any used dollys up there for under $600....

If I could find a cheap way to get my dolly up there, I can make the rest happen.

Arrgghhh.. Ideas are welcome. I need to make this trip the end of May, but can get the dolley up there any time between now and then...

I want to get these two toys back down here to the land of warmth and sunshine, where salt is only used on french fries and in maragritas! :)

Find somebody who needs a dolly going the other way? Find a 'ride needed' website, or something like that.

Only other thing I can think of is disassemble the whole shebang and ship it...then reassemble it.

Ha, none anymore. Old pic. Still have the dolley, which is someything that should have been sold along with all X-cars.

In the 90's X-cars were still everywhere, they were dirt cheap, and I knew how to work on them. They're pretty much all gone now.

The white 2-dr X-11 is still here in Austin, sold it to a friend. The off-white 4dr X-11 is at a friends house in Houston. Transmission went bad a few years ago. The orange Citation was a basic 4cyl car and is in the salvage yard now.

Over they years I owned 8-9 X-cars, but sold my last one 2-3 years ago.

Finally I learn why you use 81X11 as your ID. Good luck. Somewhere there are car nuts looking for a way to transport something eastward. It's just a matter of getting all the nuts together. :biglaugh:

There should be lots of guys from the NJ, PA area buying Texas cars. Find them and tell them you will deliver the car to them at a discounted rate. Maybe just gas & expenses. Biggest problem would be finding them. Put an ad on CL?

Well I'm finally heading north to get the Blazer and the Z28. Lost my storage up there, so HAVE to get these now.

Next month! Dates are set, scheduled time off work and got the ok from my son Eddie's teachers to let him miss four days of school. Eddie is so excited to see "his" Blazer he about can't stand it.

Dad, Eddie and I going to steal my wife's GMC Denali and with my tow dolly on the back head north early on April 25th and see how far we get. Stay somewhere in Virginia on I-81 (Wytheville? That's a LONG haul for one day...).

Get to NJ on Friday evening, then spend Saturday loading up the Z28 behind the Denali, pulling the driveshaft, setting the interior back in the car, and going over the Blazer to check for any issues. Will most likely change the oil on the Blazer there that day too....hope it's not raining...

We'll get up early on Sunday the 28th and we're going to take a full three days to get back to Texas. Will stay in southern Virginia or eastern Tennessee the first night, and then with family in northeast Arkansas the second night. Just going to take it slow and easy coming home to not push the Blazer or Denali too hard. Plan is to be back home on Tuesday the 30th (my birthday, ha!).

I actually kinda wanted to use my Custom Cruiser wagon on this adventure. I love road-tripping in the wagon, and seeing the Z28 on the dolley behind it would have been so cool, but I guess the Denali makes more sense... don't want to put that much wear and tear on my Oldsmobile. I'm going to put AAA on the Denali for the trip though, just in case.

Expect a long-winded story and lots of pics in a little over a month!

    -Mike

    Sounds like a well-thought-out plan.
Can't wait to hear how it goes!
