I've had two passions in my life and turned them both into businesses. Cars was one and this is the other. I finished building this one in Dec. and shipped it off to my client. It's new owner is a member of the US World Muzzleloading team and it will be used in 1000 yard competition.
Looks very impressive, true craftsmanship. I'm not much of a gun/rifle enthusiast. did you do the engraving?
Fannie, The engraving is fine English scroll which is about the hardest there is to engrave. It was done by a master engraver. While I do engrave, I am not yet at that level. Engraving takes many hours of practice.....time which I haven't been able to dedicate yet. Building the guns takes all that time.
Wow, that is a lovely rifle. That is the kind of thing that can be proudly handed down from generation to generation. mike
Fannie, I do engrave some of my guns, just not the "special" ones. This is more Victorian era engraving and I also do some roccoco work on flintlocks. It is a much simpler style than the fine English. I am also doing some monogrammed pendants for my daughters in law and I engraved a brass door knocker for one of my sons. My skills have a way to go yet.
wow...that's impressive work, old fox. The rifle is beautiful and....your engraving prowess looks great to me!
Maybe you could create a SWF buckle and we could all place orders...sounds familar some how... I think your engraving is coming along well. Keep practising, let us know when the buckles are ready.
What caliber is it? What powder and ball does it take? I love your work! I very much admire the custom built rifle!
It's totally from scratch. It's a facsimile (not a replica) of a John Rigby rifle. I'll see what pics I have. Balls are only effective to about 200 yards. This one shoots 1000 yards plus. It shoots a 540 grain, paper patched bullet in .45 caliber using 105 grains of Swiss 1.5FG powder. The nipple is platinum lined to prevent burnout. Fannie, there is several hundred dollars of engraving on this gun. An engraved sterling silver buckle would run around $300. I doubt if there would be much of a market for them.
