I saw the seats from the site display at the top, and got curious! Wow! Purdy! 1968 Plymouth GTX Wagon with a 440 Six Pack! It looks so mean, just sitting there:

And the Seats! Never heard of Katzkins, but it looks like it feels. Who needs viagra with a machine like that!

I've seen this car on the web a lot. There's a video of it showing the wagon 'goes' as well as it looks. I also like the builder's idea of making it "as if it came from the factory". He even went so far as to mold in the 2-doors' quarter panel side scoops into the rear doors.
    .....................................................................................................................

WAIT A COTTON-PICKIN' MINUTE!. Apparently, this is NOT the car I thought it was.

THIS is the car I was talking about.

The one in the original post is a '68. The one in the link from Jalopnik is a '70. Notice the rear door scoops I was talking about.

I was a lot boy in a Chrysler/Plymouth dealership while I was waiting for my induction into the Army, in 1968. We had a Hemi-Charger, a Super-Bee, and a GTX on the lot. ONLY the head mechanic and owner had keys. Too bad. The GTX had the same engine. Wild! Sweet idle! The car would just vibrate - rumph, rumph, rumph! You knew it wasn't 'regular'.:biglaugh:

I have to admit that if it comes to agressive looks and most worthy of the name "mean machine" I also have to vote for the 65-75 Mopars. A few days ago I saw a film featuring a '72 Cuda, wow!

With the new electric cars, we'll have to buy soundtracks for the 'old-school' sound FX. and car vibrators (not in the seats though) to threaten the rice-rocket golf-carts. How would you rev an electric? Oh the sacrifices. :biglaugh:

You are right, especially on your continent. I remember when the first cars were sold in the States with a CVT (Continues Variable Transmission). It is a dutch invention and the DAF cars had it first in the '50's, then called the variomatic. This transmission, as the name implies, does no real shifts and because of that accelerates smoothly from 0 to topspeed. The americans were used to the little shock when shifting in there automatics. As the CVT was electronically controlled, the faked the shocks as well! Completely unneeded, but it sold much better!! :)
Maybe the first e-cars in the states will have an extra big stereo with V8 sounds....I will probably import one......:yahoo:

Two other movies you might like with Mopars are "Vanishing Point" with a '70 Challenger and "Phantasm", which has several parts, all with a great "71 Hemi 'Cuda.

Buick Dynaflow and Chevy's Turboglide did not shift. Dynas were around a fairly good while, but the Turboglide only a couple or 3 years. My uncle had a '59 Impala with a Turbo. No low range, but a Gr, for "Grade Retarder" which was used only for engine braking downhill.

There was only one version of Vanishing Point for the movies. It starred Barry Newman, I think it was. There was a remake some years ago, but I think it was for TV only. None of the same actors.

In the last Phantasm movie, they showed a close up of the Hemi while he was at a service station. Sadly, the 'Cuda got wasted at the end. That was a '71 'Cuda convertible, as best I remember, with a Hemi. That car would sell for probably close to half million now. I am sure IT was not the one that was trashed. The Challenger was not destroyed either in Vanishing Point. They used several during the filming, but in the crash scent at the end, they used a Camaro. When the car hits the bulldozer blades, look at the quarter panel and you will see it is not a Challenger.

Actually, there are 2 version of Vanishing point. I do have the original one on DVD (I think), which I like better. It is darker. The remark does not even have the end you describe. Much more Hollywood, civilized.

Edit: The remark was a tv film, you are right!

If the remake was ever in the movies or on DVD, I don't know it. It was loosely based on the original, but in no way came close to it (the original).

Man! Now all we need to do is make Beer Can exterior speaker muffler tailpipes and hook 'em up under the Hybrids and Electrics for an April Fools prank! Use a remote and freak the guy out of his skin, in his own car! :D
