    Hi,

Sorry I've been away for a while--but have been able to do a little work on our Volvo wagon with the mustang 5.0 HO (more on that later) . . . .

Anyways, a friend sent me a link to "Mike’s Ford LTD Country Squire:
    “Family Truckster” at http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2052022/3

Mike did some really impressive work--and I would like to find out a little more about his car, especially the intake set-up. I searched through the member names here but didn't see him. Is he a member here?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Mike,

    Thanks for the quick reply!

First, REALLY NICE WORK on the wagon--and nice driving at the AX too! Enjoyed the reading/watching the whole story on cardomain.com

Yes, I've got a "VolV8" in VA, but I don't remember being on the "corral" recently--maybe a couple of years ago?

I did my engine swap using a Mustang 5.0 HO (from an 89 GT) back in 1995. Had some intermittant overheating problems a couple of years ago--originally thought it was a cracked head. Upgraded to GT40 aluminum heads, Cobra intake, 65mm throttle body, etc. last March (http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=468&d=1206583930)

Now I'm building a cold air intake to replace the existing K&N. I've got an air filter box from a T-bird that will let me move MAF, but am having trouble finding a "snorkle" to go from the MAF to the throttle body. I was curious as to what car your filter box and snorkle tube were from. That kind of snorkle might work for me if I can flip it over . . . .

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

    Best regards,

    Steve A-

    Thanks!

Mine is an 04 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor "Zip tube" and an 03 Marauder air box, with a Lincoln Mark VIII 80mm MAF.

From the looks maybe a Lincoln Mark VIII tube might work for you, or a standard newer crown vic one. The inlet side of mine is HUGE.

Lotta you VA guys have the converted volvos.... I saw a 5 speed one at a meet like 3 years ago, there is a guy on corral now in manassas IIRC with an 5.0/AOD, and one of my good friends got one in trade a few years back from another guy in NoVA.

    Thanks for the info Mike.

You're right--the CVPI "zip tube" would be too large for my current set-up, but may be something to go to in the future. I'll have to look through the local pick&pulls for the standard model and see if that will work.

I knew there were a couple VolV8s in VA--a local dentist built a 242 sedan with a heavily modified chevy 350 after driving my car a few years ago, but I haven't seen his car in a while . . . .

I've been tempted to try AX-ing our wagon (or maybe "Wacky Wednesdays" at Langley Speedway), but I'm finding there are lots of things to do first as it approaches 300K miles.

Thanks again for the info--and best regards,

    Steve A-

No problem, Yeah the autox is a bit hard on 'em. As I near 200K on all of my cars I think twice about autoxing a car I really enjoy driving. I need to build a dedicated track car.

I was thinking about it, maybe a newer mustang air box would work well, since it's on the same side and has the provisions for a large MAF. The conversions I've seen retain the volvo airbox.

You in the NOVA area? Ever go to any of the meets/shows?

Funny, I was thinking the same thing . . . in fact I'd already started to do a little research.

I have a Volvo diesel airbox on hand, but would have to fabricate the tubing--besides that, I'd like it to look a little more "factory."

Not in NORVA--closer to Norfolk--and haven't been to any meets or shows lately (probably should start!).

Thanks again for thinking about this . . . .
