Is it possible to put a LTI engine into a 92 wagon? If so, is it terribly expensive?

    Let's see...is it a 305 or 350 in that '92?

Depends on the wagon. If its a Roadie its a L05 350, Impala or CC had L03 305's. For less money then the cost of a LT1 and all the computer and wiring, you could build a L05 that will hand a LT1 its ass easily. Just cant be afraid to get your hands dirty.

Yeah....that's why I asked the question. Why not just build the 350???
    Or...wtf....drop a BB in.

BB are nice, but you need to mortage the house to build one. You can build a 350 that will run with a BB for 1/3 the money.

True...can't argue that one. Seems the 350's haul these wagons surprisingly well too. I always liked a lot of torque for a heavy wagon and then the B bodies came out with 350's in them and were blowing off some BB's. Stock. Build the 350 and gear it and you would probably be faster than an LT1 and easier to play with.

Still some nightmares involved though, Andy.
And I never buy someone else's rebuild.

I have a buddy with a machine shop. He builds alot of the drag and circle track motors around here. Craiger Racing Engines. I can get machinework done real cheap and have him get me perf parts at a tiny bit over cost. He told me before, if I pull my motor and drop it off to him, we will have it done, balanced, ported, pollished and punched to whatever sizes I want up to .090 and running close to 300hp for under $1000 complete and ready to reinstall within a week. It will even me dipped, painted anycolor of my choice and have Crager Racing aluminum valve covers on it. I have built many engines in the past and would trust his work over my own, he is just that damn good. Hes been doin it for over 20 years. I want a low compression build, so I can run 87 gas, keep my TBI(after I do the spacer mod) and have it still run of the PCM(after the 50hp JET chip). I dont care it its the fastest thing on 4 wheels, I do want it to run good and surpise the Pusstang kiddies, but I want it all fresh and dependable, so I can get another 150K out of it. 250+hp will be plenty and make me smile.

So thats the goal, to have all this done before winter.

When I think about it...if you are going to go to all the trouble of pulling a 350 and replacing it with an LT1....why not take all that money you will have to spend to do it...sell the '92 and put it with the replacement money and step up to the LT1 (if it IS a step up). You would have a lot of money left over to work up the LT1. Although, one thing I don't much like about the LT1, is that you can only go so far with them. Not too many speed parts available since it was a relatively short lived engine. You can make them go, I'm not saying you can't, but there are some limitations. My point is...if you REALY WANT an LT1...sell your car, put some money with it and buy an LT1 car. You would be money ahead.

Obviously for $1000 you're getting engine and tranny cores for a rebuild, plus the wring harness. The cost of the rebuild depends on who, where, budget, etc....
I'm just throwing those things out there for reference points.

Yeah, Andy...and that wouldn't be a bad deal at all for someone that wanted to drop an LT1 in a smaller car/wagon. You'd have everthing to start with.

Sounds like a good price, Blackie. I have a buddy like that too...he's better than me, I think, at building them up. Been in the business all his life. Like my dad...his was in the garage business too. His dad was into performance so my buddy grew right into it and surpassed his dad at building performance engines. If you do what you are thinking...they have good street cams now. Cams are everything and you can get them with strong pull and good manners now days. And rear gears.
