I have a 88 Ford F150 that I plan to lower. We all know how expensive lowering kits can be so I plan on doing mine using Junkyard parts.

Starting Next month I plan to get a set of front coil springs from a early 90's Ford ranger pick up. Now my camber is going to be way off so I plan to take it to a alignment shop and see what camber bushings I will need which I will get from Advance Auto Parts the only place I could find them.

For the rear I have 3/4 ton springs on the truck (yes it is a 1/2 ton) it was added before I bought it. Here I have 2 options.
    1. I can remove leaf springs from the spring pack and use a 2 in drop shackles.
    2. I can go get leaf springs from a 1/2 ton F150 and switch them out with the same 2 in drop shackles.

Out of this I will need to to make a mini flip kit. This is where I will have to find some help with welding.

I was told using Ranger coil springs may cause my front end seem wallowly
I have a 300 I6 EFI engine but will upgrade at a later date. so I am thinking about using Sway Bars from a F250-350 to help stabilize it.

I found a suspension shop when I lived in San Diego that would weigh your car on all four corners and then determine what springs to use based on the desired ride height and weight.

Trucks are so much different / simplier at times.

What kind of lowering are you doing?

di ya want the axles n frame to drag on speed bumps, or just lose the gaps from the top of the tire to the body?

Do you know that trucks spec's or???

That look can be done easy with a body drop, and body drops on a truck are easy.

I hang on s10forum.com too and its the quick n cheap way to that same look, unless you want to drag the frame. Just slice the floor/fire wall over the frame and let the body down as needed and weld. Same with the bed. If you got a welder handy its kinda cheap.

Nah I don't want to drop frame it's my daily driver until I find a wagon. O know the owner did 92 Ford Ranger coils in the front and did a what he called a mini flip kit in the rear so that tells me he bought very few parts and cut the notch deep enough to clear. I'm trying to find out more.

I dont know if I would consider a body drop cheap or easy....

If you want to lower it cheap....cut some springs out man! Or hang around and find some cheap used ones on the forums.

The ranger mini flip kit is cheap and easy, I dont think it is the same on an F150 though, but it might be.

On these F150 I can swap the springs from a Ford Ranger for $25.00 total. And get rid of the 3/4 ton springs in the rear, swap back in 1/2 ton leaf springs for around $60.00

On the GM-trucks i have lowered i just moved all of the leafs to the other side of the main leaf.. It just cost the rust-off to get the U-bolts loose, and you can adjust the height in a hour or so if it gets too soft or too low. In front i wpould go for softer springs, and maybe cut it after it´s been sitting in place for a while.. The coils always take a little while to get down on their seats..

    amp,

the older rangers are pretty much a little f150 underneath.
i think all a flip kit does is reverse the rear shackles right?

Yeah I believe so, I think if I remember right you have to buy some new bolts, but can be had at a local hardware store for like 6 bucks I think.

    Stainless for the win!(y)
