Smoked a rotten arsed deer on the highway as I was slowing down for my exit just 10 minutes ago. On my way home from work, flipped the right side blinker on and out jump a Mother Fricken deer, I locked the brakes and WHAM! Its a total loss. It ripped my oil cooler open and before I could shut it down the motor locked up. So its fricken junk! I only have liability insurance on it, so deer damage is not covered. I would fix it, but the motor is squeeked, so piss on it!

I will get pics posted up.

So I might sell a few parts off it, its solid, but the hood, new IMP SS Grille, driver fender driver headlight and marker, core support, motor, radiator, shroud, fan, ac condensor are all toast.

I HATE DEER and I hope thay all are killed off this hunting season! I just might go poaching just to thin out the herds. DAMN IT IM SO PISSED!

Been there, done that. Hoof came through the right side of the W/S and almost took out my daughter. We were OK, the Explorer not so much....$4,500 to repair.

    Glad you're all right.

So you're still Mobyl right? :whew: How's the other roadie? Betcha you won't be calling her Deerie.;)

Dam good thing you were slowing down when it happened. You're here, Moby protected you, and Deerie won't even make it to a hunter's table.

This raises a design idea. What would a cow-catcher grill look like on a wagon? Urban centers all over have the same issue, crowding out wildlife. We've had nearly 50 similar fatalities and over 300 moose/deer accidents across Canada. Maybe its time for a new front end treatment?

Sorry to hear that, Blackie. I'm in the middle of deer country here and I really hate night driving because of them. It wears you out on the back roads just trying to watch for them. Just about everyone I know has got a deer or four with their car. Really sorry about your wagon. Let us know if it can be fixed or if you are parting it.

Scott, so bummed to hear about this. Deer can do amazing damage to a car, even to one built as sturdy as the B body wagons. A few years back, I was driving a Crown Vic in Maryland and a deer jumped right in front of me. I just caught him with the right front corner. Since it wasn't a full on collision, I got out of the car expecting to find a busted headlight and maybe a cracked grille.
    End result-$5500 worth of damage.
I'm glad you're okay, however, and that you didn't get injured.

I knew I saw a Fairmont with 'roo bars'. From here:

More like a parkinglot pusherbar setup.

That's an interesting site by the way, for any Fairmont or other Fox-bodied owners.

This is a good one for Mustangs Special Service units.

This is a good Fairmont backgrounder that talks about the weaknesses and when they were improved:

Sorry to hi-jack your thread Scott, but feel free to nail one of mine some day. I just wanted to shake you into a lighter mood.

The only thing I can add to this sad event is that if you get car assessed for damage you may be able to deduct the loss on this years tax return.

i feel for you. my family and i went to disney last month and we had to rent a 12 passenger van. Avis decided to overbook vans so there wasn't one available for me. With 7 kids and 4 adults (only 2 driving) and an itinerary that required non stop driving, neither the wagon, nor the 2 cars they offered would work. The agent was nice enough to find and secure us a van hours later which caused me to miss work. Later that night as i'm trying to get everything that was supposed to be done earlier taken care of, i hit a deer doing about 65. Now it's 12:00am and i'm back to square one with no van.

No other rental place had one and at 12am, most were closed. I found one in Philadelphia and had to drive down there from CT only to turn around and come back to CT to pack and then leave for FL that night. Ironically, in all the times i've rented a vehicle, this was the first time i got the insurance coverage. i will never opt out of it again.

this sure doesn't compare to the loss of a personal vehicle but i share your disdain for deers.
