Hi, I at one time owned a Mercury Cougar Station Wagon 1977. It was my first car and I did love it very much. It would go anywhere I wanted it to and was the most dependable car I have ever owned. They just don't make cars like that anymore. She finally died with 297,000 miles on her. I would dearly love to own another one, but being they are not only hard to find but are classics as well, its a tad out of my reach. I just feel honored to have owned one at all.
Good luck with the hunt. Every so often one of those Cougar wagons does come available, and most of the time the price is fairly reasonable. Don't forget that the LTD II is exactly the same vehicle. More common, though, are the 72 through 76 Ford Torino and Mercury Montego wagons that are, aside from some styling differences, the same vehicle as well. Have fun around here! to the forum. Any of the above Ford wagons would be a great choice. Depending on what you call expensive or out of reach, there are many good buys and nice wagons around. Keep in mind, not many people think they are worth keeping, except mentally deranged wagon people and demo derby people . So it's possible to find a bargain if you look.
Welcome laj1963! Nice to have you join us, lots of wagon finds on our forum you never know what you might find.
Welcome aboard, laj1963! Keep your eyes and ears open; you'll find something that tickles your fancy and fits your budget. Happy Hunting
Thanks... Thanks everyone for your kind welcome. I did find one in Canada last year that had been totally restored, they wanted 25,000 dollars for it. Which was fair but then you have to figure in the duty to get it across the border to the US. Oh well I'll just keep looking. Toodles
That wagon for $25,000 was WAY over the top for price! You can get a terrific wagon for a whole big bunch less than that! In fact, if you look at the threads showing the listings from eBay, Craigslist, etc., there is a 1977 Dodge Monaco wagon that is pristine, and the asking price is under $9,000. It want for nothing by the look of it. It is also owned by one of the members here, and is, I believe, in California. There are certainly other beautiful wagons for well under $10,000, and a goodly number of really nice wagons for under $5,000.
