Was doing some digging and found this. I've seen the car on 'Jay Leno's Garage (website), but didn't know the details. Turns out the car came from Vancouver Island, BC. I wonder if any of you guys up there know of the car or who owned it? read the story....... http://www.7litre.org/jaysrestoration.html
Nice car anyway, but a stupid story IMHO. Take a nice car, a rare one in original condition (or very near to). Join it to some famous people with lots of money who could have take good care of her. You end up with a custom car with lots of mods (body, trimming, electronics, engine, gear box, suspension, drive train, brakes, etc, etc,...). There's something wrong...
Don't understand the importance of finding an original car to then just turn it into what is basically a Pro Touring car?
Dito and Dito! I've been here since 82 and never recall that monster but once I read this... Qoute... Jackson first found the Galaxie on Vancouver Island in 1998, the sole car protected in the garage of a collector. Every other car the guy had was under the trees, rotting into the ground near Malahat, but not the Galaxie. ...Qoute ...I'm sure I know exactly where it came from. I will not give ouit details for privacy reasons but let me just say..... Back in the early 80's there was a dream of a home with hords of old MINT iron all over the property. As years went by the natural growth of the woods and a large fence being built made the view disapear. As many more years went by the large fence started to fail and the beautiful old iron was visible again. ALL parked in the same spot, and all rusting sinking into the ground ( this is with in the last year) As I mention, the general location was given. I have a gut feeling and it's very sad what has happened to the cars there.
Thanks, Tedy. That's why I posted this. I guessed there might be some kind of connection there. Well at least one car escaped the rust jungle.
All I will say is "Malahat", the link mentioned the name... ....it's one of those OMG places if yo've never seen it (and if you blink, you'll miss it) but if you know of this place for 30 years, you would never use the word "collector" due to the lack of care given to cars that were DRIVEN road legal on the property. Nice Job Jay leno...making wine out of lemon juice
We all know Jay iz DADDY GOT ROCKS, but I wonder what just the storage on his iron costs him in SoCal
Jerry Seinfeld bought an entire parking garage in New York City just to store his cars. Can you imagine?! http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/0527041jerry1.html
Storage cost - nothing. He's got his own 'garage' - a large building in an industrial section of Burbank, near the airport. Large enough to store all his cars, plus have a mechanical shop, a body shop, and who knows what else......He's got at least 3 guys on staff full time restoring and taking care of the cars. One thing I like about Jay Leno - his collection is very eclectic - everything from a Corvair Rampside P/U, to motorcycles, to million dollar stuff, to his own turbine-powered speedster.....oh - and a '54 Dodge Station Wagon.
Does anyone know if Leno bought the following collection, as the video suggests? Bear with it, because the dialogue between the two is all in "English":
