The old guy who had my 64 Olds Dynamic 88 "Fiesta" before me had the car repainted in lacquer and then had it clear coated so he wouldn't have to wax it.... Well, now the clear is about 1/2 gone and I need to get the rest off without damaging the paint under it because it's still really nice. Car has a white top with dark blue body. Is there any hope???:banghead3:

Wet sand with 1000 sandpaper and water with dish washing liquid in it. Lots of elbow grease, and then find someone that knows how to buff and polish. Don't gamble yourself, because you will loose. Lacquer is very temperamental and burns easily and also will rub through on the high spots. You might want to leave the entire job to an experienced detail person that will know how to make it shine like new. Unless the clear coat is pealing, I would just have it properly detailed. My 1962 Chevrolet ambulance was clear coated at the factory before any moldings were installed. Only one that I have ever seen like it.

Sanding off clear coat and not harming the base coat is difficult even for professionals like me. Is it a metallic blue base coat or solid blue ? To save you the hard work to sand off the clear you mite as well just paint the car because you will sand through somewhere.

I just deleted a suggestion of using very sticky duct tape to try and remove the possibly poorly applied clearcoat, because see that you stated your paint is a repaint. My suggestion is, therefore, probably not advisable.

Duct tape is not a magic tool.
//////////// Don't try this unless you are a professional like Red Greene.

    :biglaugh:..........

Well I hate to say it but as for clear and removal..... I think it's repaint time for the Buick this spring also because of clear "flaking' away. lately I have found the pressure washer is GREAT for removing it, But I also would not recommend..........................

Side note..... How does the clear last for years and then over night turn into crap all over
