Hi all. I'm a newby but an old "Wagon Master". Back in the day I had the fastest 59 Edsel Villager in town (actually the only one). Anyway, much older and wiser now and looking for a cool early to mid 60's wagon. Want something needing little to be able to jump in and cruise dependably in. If you know or hear of anything out there just let me know. Thanks....

    Welcome!

Hi Dan and fans of 60s wagons,

    First welcome! :Welcome:

I certainly cannot agree more with your choice of epoch for a wagon! (y) Indeed choosing a wagon that is a "cousin once removed" from a muscle car will give you plenty of reproduction parts to take care of your baby.

I can't help you find one since I'm more than too busy taking care of my trusty wagon. But worry not, d'em wagons are out there. It won't take long for your find a project. If you want one in better condition, it might take a little longer but after all patience is a virtue!

Best of luck in your 1960s wagon search!

    Cheers, Edouard

    Welcome, DanC.

Your wagon is out there........ Lots of resources to find one. Check these:

Cars-On-Line - Has a station wagon sorting tab - look down column on left.
    http://www.cars-on-line.com/index.html

Old Station Wagons for Sale: This is a selection of all the wagons that are currently on E-bay, with links
    http://www.oldstationwagonsforsale.com/station-wagons-for-sale

Out own in-house section, where forum members throw up links to wagons they've seen in their own internet searches (mostly Craig's List). These are not our own wagons that we are selling. We've got a different section for that.

    Good luck with your search...

I'm open to many options but like the looks of (no special order) 60-64 fords, 61-64 olds/pontiac/buick, 56-61 dodges/desoto, 58 edsel. I like the obscure look but want something I can still locate parts for within reason. 10-12k $$ range I live in Indiana but am willing to travel (w/trailer) for the right wagon. Thanks Dan

:Welcome:Dan. Since your search is fairly wide open you should be able to find a nice wagon ready to roll for a fair price. Make sure it is the one you want though. Once you start tossing dollars at it you want to make sure it's a keeper.
I'd say the Ford or BOP line would be best for parts later.

Welcome to the nuthouse we know as home! Sounds like a great selection of cars on your list. When it comes to finding parts, though, mechanical parts will be easiest for the Buick Special/Sport Roof. Oldmobile F-85/Vista Cruiser, and Pontiac Tempest wagons from 64 through 67. They are so closely related to the 'muscle car' variants of the G.M. mid-sized platform cars that parts are readily and easily found. The full sized wagons are out there and parts can be found but not quite as easily. My favorite of the cars on your list are the 61 Pontiacs, though. I love the 61 Bonneville wagon most of all. My second favorite wagon of that vintage is the 62 Mercury Commuter. It is funny, here I am talking most about the G.M. wagons and yet when the doctor did a blood test, my corpuscles were blue ovals! What ever you get, enjoy the search, and then enjoy the wagon!

:Welcome: to the Funny Farm Dan. With that list you should score quickly. Got a question for yeah and having owned one, I figure you'd be a good authority. What is your take on the design and quality of the push button shifter in the Edsel? I've heard seems like forever that the design was troublesome but never talked to anyone thats owned one! I know all about the Push Button Torque Fites but nothing about the Phord units in the middle of the wheel. Jer

    Push Button Teletouch

Mine was a 59 and the push button teletouch was a 58 only thing. They were said to be troublesome but could be rebuilt and then seem to hold up well as long as you kept water from the underhood unit. A 58 roundup (2 door wagon) with teletouch would be the coolest of cool and I'd snag one in a minute. I would consider a straight up 58 Villager as well.
