I have later versions of that K-2 Scammell and the K-10 Pipe Truck in my collection. My father's only task each Christmas (apart from buying my mother a gift) was to locate a new Matchbox Super-Kings truck for me. This was a task he took to heart and spent great amounts of time selecting just the right truck for the year. I still have all of them mounted in clear model cases and I still have a love for the 70's Lesney stuff. I regularly haunt antique shops, garage sales, and thrift stores for Super-Kings, Battle-Kings, and Speed-Kings.
That one was a good score! I found it at the local Value Village still in the original packaging. The packaging was pretty battered...but still.
So i assume the non yellow is like a second release, like in the 70's? Like the blue trailer twin dumps in pic. Guy wants $300 for these all.
Yeah, the 1971 Pipe truck was predominantly purple from what I know. Yellow was actually a rarer colour in the new 70's body style. Doesn't look like too bad a set for $300. There's two or three in there that I've been looking for.
Still looking for some dodge tipper parts looking to do a "road train" like in the pic #1 note how they used the long trailer with the coupler from the second shorter one. So if anyone has parts in their junkyard. Like to find the top row as well. I have the others.
I pulled out a couple old toys myself tonight. Anyone here old enough to remember Ideal's "Motorific" battery powered (1/43 scale) slot cars? Notice I have two of the 1964 Ford Country Squire wagons. I have the pale yellow one and the blue one. The wagon was also available in red and in turquoise. How about Remco's "Thimble City" play set. The little town was built on a sheet of masonite and supported by 4 plastic legs. Vehicles and the citizens of the town would be moved around by the use of a magnet on the end of a "wand" moved around on the under side of the masonite board.
I never really got into Tonkas. But I still have all my Legos from when I was a kid. Probably a couple thousand pieces total. My daughter likes to build with them. I also still have my original genuine Rubiks cube, and both the small and large Rubiks Magic glass puzzles. I found some HO scale model train stuff still under the house too. Other than that, I still ride the Schwinn 10 speed I got in 6th grade, 1988. Folks paid $250 for it which was a real stretch, but I've put a LOT of miles on it and have certainly gotten good use from it. I also still use the Weller soldering gun that I got when I was a kid. The tips have been patched together a lot but it still works good. Heck, I still have shorts and shirts from around 1990 and they still fit.
Sadly when I was young I was much smarter than my parents and I moved out. I had 100's of old comic books, my uncle's old metal toys, including a cement mixer that mixed, a large collection of stick matchbook covers, a lot of Lional train things, etc. All gone including my Schwinn with frame tank, mud flaps, and built in horn. Even my accordian. If I had it I could play "Lady of Spain" for ya! Got old toys sitting around? As for the question, only my wife.
