I did a quick search but couldn't find this anywhere...but it is my first day so sorry if it is a repost. Leaked camera phone pic of Holdens new Wagon, shown recently at a dealers presentation: The picture appears to be that of an SS VE Holden wagon. If specs and drivetrains run true to Holdens current form, expect a 6.0 V8 with 6 speed manual or auto driving the rear wheels. Holden as released SS wagons before, but only in limited numbers and only for 2 series (VY and VYII). There is more to be seen at GMinsidenews and their VE Wagon thread.
Both Ford and GM sell some nice vehicles down under. Now that SUVs are a dying breed, we may get another shot at being able to buy some decent brand new wagons.
Yep, big, heavy high rise wagons. Perhaps CAFE requirements can have a little impact on future lineups.
That G8 looks really cool. Someday they will bring back more stylish wagons...until then we have to look at the SUV's. It won't be long until they start to lose their flavor!!
Yeah, it'll never happen. I was at a friends house and his wife was talking about how her SUV was such a gas guzzler. "Get a wagon" I said. "It's got all the space of an SUV, handles better, and gets the same mileage as a car." She said she could never own a wagon because it doesn't feel sporty to her. Granted, we're talking about someone who only gets off the couch to take care of the kids. I don't know how sporty she really needs to feel.
That seems to be an epidemic. It is more widespread than you know. Sitting on the couch...eating bon-bons watching Oprah...and wants the biggest SUV to pick up and drop off kids. Makes sense to me! :suspect: I better stop while I am ahead and upset someone.
I never understood what was so sporty about SUVs. Slow Utility Vehicles seems more appropriate. Sure you can jam a massive donk in one, but ESP only lasts up until the laws of physics take over. Seems as though we are the only "enlightened" ones. Long may we reign.
I can understand the appeal. My mom was was waaaay ahead of the SUV soccer mom curve with her Wagoneer in the 1970s. Now THAT was an SUV. But back then no one drove those things, so there was some cachet. Nowadays, it's all about how much you can make your truck drive, look, and act like a car. Just lame.
I can see the appeal of some of the crossovers. Specifically the new Ford whatchacallit. You sit in it just like a 56 Ford wagon. More like sitting in a comfy chair. I think that was part of the appeal of the mini vans was the seating position as compared to a regular car. It's the only thing I don't care for in my Cougar is the sitting on the floor feeling. As to sporty. Cars are much more sporty than trucks. And mine is a Grand Sport (GS) Station Wagon!
