I was out cruising the Eagle down some local back roads the other day. I went by a house and saw a white Checker Wagon parked out back. It looks to have been there for some time, but nonetheless appeared to be in decent shape. I know very little about these cars. I would like to go back when there is someone home and check it out. I have no idea what years the wagons were built, how many were made, or what the value of these things might be. Can anyone offer some advice or info on these cars? Thanks... CaptCarl
checker wagons...... ahhh a wagon truly built like a block schiess haus. one of my fav's they initially had a continental engine but in the 1964 model year they switched to chevy motors. the cars with proper care can hit 500k no problem. here is a web site for more info: http://www.checkertaxistand.com/index.php the marathon wagon was made from 1960 - 1974
There is an article about them in the gallery http://stationwagonforums.com/forums/gallery/browseimages.php?c=96
Thanks for the links. The article was interesting, as was the Website for them. When I get around to going out and checking the car out, I'll bring my trusty camera and post pictures of it. Have the Best Day!! CaptCarl
It's been a long while, but back when I would see ads for Checker Wagons, they almost always came with the proviso "NEVER BEEN A TAXI!". Finding out that some had been sold to the public and not just the Checker Cab Company, was a pleasant revelation.I would never realistically consider buying a taxi. Most certainly more recent ones...But,just to get a Checker(it wouldn't even have to be a wagon, but that IS the optimal buy),I'd probably buy an old taxicab. They come with the bestest backseat legroom!Even better than a Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham Sedan deVille.
