The power rear window on my 1972 Caprice Estate wagon will open (which is up on these cars), but it will not close (down) under power. I can unhook the cable and manually wind the cable with a drill and it will close. I am assuming the motor itself is good since it will open, or could the "other way" be bad? I am thinking the switch is bad on the closing side? Any suggestions?
That's what I would suspect. You could try to reverse the switch to see if that's the case. Then you'd know for sure.
I've had to repair a few of those. Mostly Mopars, but I fixed a couple of GM switches by prying them open and cleaning the copper contacts with a fine finger nail file or some 220 grit oil-cloth sandpaper. In one case, I was able to use a small soldering gun and place a thin layer of solder and file it flat.
I've uploaded 30 pages from the Fisher Body Manual (1973). Pretty sure you find an answer there: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v601/73Riv/fisher%20tailgate%20section/ Window regulator assembly perhaps?
Don't know if you're still having trouble... is it dead from both the dash and the keyswitch on the quarter? Jump 12 volts (yeah, I know, a long wire) to the terminals just to be sure. Adam
