I was so in love with these in the early 90's. I still think they're really cool - almost impossible to find too...
Chevy didn't sell very many. I think you could only get them in red, white or black. At the time I was sort of surprised that Chevy came out with a wagon version of it. (You could also get the Eurosport VR as a regular 2-door or 4-door sedan. It was a typical Chevy 'dress-up' job though - all 'show' and no 'go'. The only 'performance' improvement it had was maybe some minor suspension pieces and bigger meats. Engine (3.1V6) was all stock.
Yeah, in terms of power... nothing. I just thought the styling was nice and unusual for a wagon - ahead of it's time in a way...
I always did like those. And that one looks even better as I think it was modded. That and there are plenty of engine mods or swaps that can be done.
Going a bit sideways....... I've always had a bit of a problem with the way GM handled the production and marketing of this platform. I had a '80 Pontiac Phoenix hatch as a company car - nice, solid car with the 2.8 V6 - in it's first year of production as a GM front-driver. Then, my next co. car was a '83 Pontiac 6000, also with the 2.8. I set up the 4-door sedan with buckets and console, tilt, and pw. Turned out to be a very nice car. Was going to buy it for myself, but then I left the company. Anyway, GM had a nice, solid platform with the the Celebrity, 6000, Century and Cutlass Ciera - especially the V6 models with the 3.8 V6. You could only get the 3.8 from Buick and Olds though. Chevy and Pontiac had to make due with the 2.8 (later 3.1) V6's. The 2.5 4-cyl models were only marginal as far as performance. Had a 4-cyl Ciera for a short while...bad. You saw GM putting out vehicles that never should have been released in the first place. I'm primarily talking about the Cadillac Cimmaron here, based off of the smaller Chev Cavalier platform. If GM had held off development for a year or so, then designed the Cimarron off of the slightly larger Celebrity-6000-Century-Ciera platform instead they would have had a much much nicer car. I'm sure it woulf have sold probably twice as much volume, too. Imagine a small Caddy back then that people actually percieved as a good car - 3.8 fuel injected V6, good road manners (6000 STE suspension?), decent looks, enough room for 4 or 5...heck, they could have even made a bad Caddy wagon.........
An "A-body" Cadillac...I've never pondered that, but I think you're on to something, Krash. That would have been a pretty good idea. The A-bodies were very popular. I had a 94 Cutlass Ciera and really liked it. A Caddy would have been pretty nice in the A-body. I guess the closest to that would have been an early A-body Buick Century with all the options...including the fiber-optic lamp monitors on the front fenders...just like all the Cadillacs of the day had. The first time I ever saw a Eurosport VR, I thought that somebody had done their own mods to a Celebrity 4-dr...I had no idea they made such a thing...there's a VR wagon that I see every now and then around here...in white.
There was a red 4 door VR running around Rapid city, SD. in the early 90s. Was a neet car. Never seen the wagons, but would be cool to have one. Tim
