Well, this was quite a fun weekend. I had three cars in the shooting of a new HBO show “Duster” you guessed it. The star of the series is Josh Holloway, I didn’t know who is was either , and a ‘71 Duster. They asked me to bring my 1972 Country Squire, as well as a 1964 Galaxie, the blue 4 door I own, affectionately I named Thelma Lou, and my 1957 Chevy 210 wagon. Don’t know how much will wind up on the cutting room floor, but it was a fun weekend, and I made a couple of bucks, and some new friends along the way! The ‘57, and Thelma Lou!
That's very cool! Hope that they all get a little screen time ! Do you belong to a car guild for that purpose?
Actually was at a charity car function a few weeks ago with a ‘70’s LTD and a friend of mine that works for the movie industry, and an associate of his were there. He introduced me to him and he asked me to send him some pictures of things I have from the ‘50’s ‘60’s, and early ‘70’s. “Nothing with big bumpers” so his assistant contacted me after I had sent her 10 or so pictures and wanted those particular 3. Think they also may use the Colony Park and a few others for another shoot, we’ll see. New Mexico has a pretty robust film industry. I had about 7 cars in No Country for old men. Then they sent a transport. It’s fun, but I prefer to be there with the cars. Sometimes the extras in the movies think they’re just props.
It’s funny the guy I was telling you about owns quite a few of the cars they are using in the series. He has 3 identical Dusters. Think that’s where the real money is. This one is strictly used for interior driver shots. Interesting business.
My brother had a 1968 Chrysler 2 door. He lived in South Bend 1 block over from where "Rudy" was being made. They saw his car and it got to be used in the movie. Just in the background parked along the curb. you can barely see the back of it in 1 scene. He also Had a 1965 Sport Fury Convertible, bright yellow, but it was too flashy to be in the background.
Yeah. They were pretty particular as far as colors they wanted. They were kinda weird about white and green although there were those colors used. There was also a ‘51 DeSoto in bright yellow there as well. I guess it depends on what type of scene they want to set. I’m kinda lucky in that I have sedans and wagons. Not a lot of collectors seem to have sedans.
Well an update. More shooting today. The ‘64 Galaxie was used again today as were a ‘72 LTD I have and the 1960 Colony Park. The setting is “Elvis Presley” house.
