i came across a Taurus wagon today and it came to me that it had been a loooooooong since i'd seen a taurus let alone a taurus wagon.

i found that i rather like the lines.

are Taurus wagons 'collectible' in the marketplace?

is there a best year for taurus/sable wagons?

Don't know much about them. The guy I bought my Fairmont donor car from bought a Taurus Wagon, a 1996 or so, for about $2,600, IIRC. He really was proud of it. Looked nice, but too closed in for my liking. I seem to remember that it was Front-wheel drive, but I could be wrong.

Have had two Tauruses(not wagons)and they're not that bad as cars go.Have known a few people with Taurus wagons, but never heard any of them bragging about how great they were...According to a Consumer Reports magazine I read back in 2001,the best Tauruses were built from 1992 to 1996.And,even then, they still had problems with their trannies. When competently worked on,the trannies are not that much of a problem, however. When I got my 95 Taurus,it came with a warranty.A good thing, too,as a few months after getting it,the tranny was acting up.Because of the warranty,I had to take it to a NAPA approved mechanic on the Used Car Lot's list...NOT a good thing,as the NAPA mechanic really didn't fix the problem...Took it,there-after to a trusted local fix-it shop.Haven't had a problem since...There's a video of a guy on Youtube, rally racing his Taurus wagon along a dirt road somewhere. He claims he didn't do that much "fixing it up" and it runs the course like a champ!..

I too would say the 1992-96 models, which were virtually refreshed 1986-91 models. Same chassis, but had some updates. The 90-91 Taurus may also be a good choice if cared for. Tranny problems were the main issues.

My aunts mother had a 1990 Taurus LX sedan that she had no problems with. It was still like new (that was only about 3 years ago... she passed away).

As I am reading your posts about Taurus wagon, there is one featured on the SW forum header photo. It's the one I'm not as fond of, the last version, with the oval-everything (hope I am not stepping on anyone's toes). :footinmouth:
I prefer the first version out of the box, the 86-91...Sable especially...but the only place I see many of them is at the local Pick-N-Pull. :smash:

Yeah, a man down the road had a Taurus wagon for a few years and had it up until a couple of months ago... it was like an 88-89 model (didnt have an airbag, so no newer than 1989). It was a good looking car. I still see alot of the 86-91 Taurus sedans around here. Saw about 4 today. :)

I guess up north most have rusted away.

My present Taurus(95),is what the old definition of "clunker" meant. It's been deteriorating quickly, since we bought it,about three years ago...Our mechanic recently told us,"If it's going to take more than $1,000 to fix it...Don't..." (1) we're nowheres near rich enough to be buying a brand new car,and(2)it gets mpg's so good,it doesn't qualify,anyway...AND(3) I really don't think Tauruses will truly qualify as "classics",no matter how old they get. So,it won't be such a big loss, when it goes...:disagree:

i love the looks of the first gen taurus and sable wagons. i havent seen a sable wagon here (greenville sc) in years, but we still have oodles of tauri and tauri wagons running around.

probably one reason people dont keep their taurus in check is most of them were dirt cheap when bought new. the parents ran them 200k miles, then handed them down to kids, who used and abused them, then sold them or traded them in for their first newer car. the resale was so low, the lower class got hold of them and further abused them. all because they were cheap from the day they were new.

I love the way they look, but i dont like the ride of them.. loud and rough. ( i still wish the sheet metal people from ford, and the running gear and ride people from GM would get together and build some pretty cars that ride like something):taz:

ive seen people make an SHO taurus wagon, but they didnt make them from the factory. the later ones had v8's but the early ones lik i mentioned lik 86-90 just had sportier v6's id love to have an 89 taurus sho. but again, ride and interior quality isnt there for my taste.

I was looking at the Mercury version for a while - a '00 - '03 Sable wagon, with front leather buckets, loaded. Look a bit more stylish than the same year Taurus IMO. Fairly reasonable in price, too.
