I just found this pic, it was in a link but had nothing to do with the site or had any mention of these wagons witch are all Buicks... Whats up with the extra few miles of trim on the sides? I'm guessing it has to be a fleet of some sort......
I sure would like to find out the story. What in the world is up with all of them having that tacky add on moldings all over their sides? The blue one looks like it might have groceries in the back. It must be an old pic because each one of them look brand new. Interesting find, Tedy.
The nearest red one seems to only have two. What's up with the beige one with no wood and it's the only one that has a trailer hitch. I think that may be the nose of a same vintage Caprice in the very bottom of the picture.
Yeah, and the biege one has the trim for wood but it's missing the third brake lite. A bit older and with a repaint maybe?
Obviously a fleet. Private school, maybe? And whoever is in charge is deathly afraid of door dings.......
Maybe they're Walmart shoppers...that's where all my dings have come from! I park over with the motor homes now
Sad part is, I agree when it comes to parking lots. My wife and her 99 van due to work is/has been parking in evey parking lot in town over the years. Her van is dented like crazy. In that same time frame I've been parking on active stupid insane job sites, in the middle of the yard where I used to work and I have maybe 1 chip for every 20+ dents that her van has and you can tell they are all from car doors getting slamed into it.. Hell, I even got hit and run with a big dent in my Buick not lang ago, I was only in Rona for 15 minutes
The bumpers are all wrong too! Can't figure it....tail lights don't look exactly right either. I HAVE to find out about these cars!!
Hahaha... Looks like something the griswalds would be driving around. Maybe they had a family reunion?
There is an Estate Wagon of similar vintage nearby that has the same ridiculous side moldings all down the side, three or four of those add on strips. I will have to go by and take some pics of it. Last time I checked, it was under a car cover, quietly rotting away on the back driveway. I never understand guards installed on cars. To me, they are kind of like the plastic covers on a couch, put on so that the fabric isn't stained, so no one ever enjoys the fabric, because it is always covered. These door strips required taking a drill and drilling through the perfect sheet metal, and the screwing this ugly molding down. All just to avoid what? A door ding? It is permanantly uglified, just so it won't get a tiny mark. Bras for rock chips? They looked ridiculous and did more damage than they prevented. I really don't understand door edge guards...they break up the flow of the side, and are only useful if the driver is so lazy, or is in the habit of hitting his own door up against others, damaging theirs. I never park next to cars with door edge guards. I better stop before someone thinks I'm Andy Rooney! David
But....hey Rooney ... what's up with the bumpers?? There is still something going on with these cars besides adding a few strips.
I don't see anything strange with the bumpers, but I do think that door molding was put on the tailgates above and below the factory brushed chrome strip. The beige wagon is probably a 1985 model, and all the rest are '86 and on, so the bumper insert is a little different between the years. David
