My name is Bob Howard and have been a long time wagon nut. As a kid my parents had a slew of wagons 1959 Dodge Custom Sierra 1960 Dodge Matador 1962 Dodge Polara 1964 Dodge Custom 880 1967 Dodge Monaco 1970 Pontiac Bonneville My favorite was the 60 Dodge. I spent forever trying to find one and finally I found in 1998 a 1960 9 passenger top of the line Polara Hardtop in California. I will post some pics within the next day and a vehicle history but thought I'd say a quick hello. Wagons Forever!
Hey! Welcome Bob! Does that Polara have the swivel buckets. That was one of the neatest Mopar options ever... well besides the big Hemis!
Thanks all for the kind welcome. I uploaded some pics in the Dodge Gallery.... http://stationwagonforums.com/forums/gallery/browseimages.php?c=11 I am the third owner. This is the number 56 wagon of 302 manufactured in Los Angeles plant November 1959. It was shipped to Joscelyn Motors in Culver City January 23, 1960. 1768 nine passenger Polara wagons were made in total. The car has been a lifelong resident of California until May 1998 when it was brought back to Michigan. It was evaluated as a 2/2.5 car by a Pebble Beach 20 year Concours judge I had look at the car. For me it has been a lifelong dream fulfilled and it will be a fun long term friend of the family- my kids love it. One final note is the crowds it attracts in parking lots is amazing the car is a real smile maker and I am proud to be its caretaker! The car is cocoa brown with a fawn top. It has been repainted the bumpers rechromed and the front interior seats have been redone and the engine detailed but not to my knowledge rebuilt. In all, most is in original amazingly great condition especially for a wagon. The 383/4bbl makes the wagon surprisingly quick especially at passing speeds. Options: 9 passenger Power Steering Power Brakes Unique "Satellite styled" Clock - revolving turrett with floating-dot second hand 4 bar spinner wheel covers Factory Roof Rack Rear Handle Assists Back Bumper Step Pads Passenger Side Mirror Padded Dash Sorry Norman it doesn't have the swivel seats...maybe someday! After 10 years of looking I know of only 2 other Polara Wagons in good shape one in Japan and one in Sweden. I am always on the look-out to find other owners. If anyone has a lead please let me know. Cheers and keep those wagons rolling!
I think,I think, I think I love you. Welcome to the nut house what a beautiful car you have. Don't be surprised if Norman doesn't want you to Adopt him. Am I nuts yes and no!!!!!
Nah, just admire the car. But RK, you gotta get off the fence, Yes or No? Those pickets really hurt after a while. Oh! Oh! my addiction is kicking in. Back to the car! RUN!!!
I noticed the picture at the lake that the car is a very different color. Camera or lighting? Looks very nice either way.
