Hi Folks...I have been working on a 1958 Edsel Bermuda 9 pass, and finally got around to joining this fine group. A few months after I found the Edsel in San Joaquin valley of Calif - I was asked to move to Colorado. So the restoration process was severely interrupted. At the time I already had a 6pass Bermuda which I sold before leaving. Yes, I am a gluten for punishment. After a lot of setbacks and problems, I just got the Edsel out of a paint shop. Now dealing with putting the old barge back together. I am looking for some info on covering or redoing the wheel well covers in the cargo area. They used some sort of rubberized material that has severely cracked and is very hard to get off (like tar underneath) I would imagine it is similiar to other brands of that era. Anyone have any luck either finding something to patch it with (and then paint) ? I may have to try to use thin indoor/outdoor carpet material -but visualize difficulty with the curves. Too bad there isn't something out there that could be spread on like puddy to fill in cracks and holes, and then could all be painted. -Rob

:Welcome:Rob. Not familiar with Edsel wagon interiors altho several friends have had Edsel cars. But right off I picture scraping as much of the coating off the wheel wells and using some sort of truck bedliner painted on. Son used something from Wal-Mart on the bed of his El Camino and it turned out nice.
On my 55 Chevy wagon I used vinyl like on the door panels. If warm it will lay down fairly well.

:Welcome:to the wagon train, Rob. They do make something like that...it's called Bondo.:D I'm thinking that you could maybe scrape sand etc to get as much off as you can and then Bondo it, sand it down real nice and paint it. I have also seen others cover those wells with vinyl to match the interior of the cargo area.

    Welcome to the forum!
I've got a '58 Ford Ranch Wagon so a lot of what you have to say I will be very interested in.
My car, unlike most of the other members here, is a daily driver. Not a hobby, tho I love working on it in my spare time. But it's both a means and an end to a business so... it's not going away anytime too soon.
