I went to ABC Warehouse to buy a Cd stereo and have it installed in my '89 F150. I had the install tech look at the truck, and he said that the installation was free. I only pay for the kit and harness. The cashier goes to ring me up, and he charges me $40 installation fee. I told him what the tech said, and the cashier said they charge everyone an install fee. the head of the dept was even there and did not say anything. I've had ABC install stereos in two other trucks identical to this one, and I've never been charged an install fee. So, I walked out. I even told the tech what was going on, and he just shakes his head and and "that's wrong". Am I overreacting?:taz:

I would have called over the tech who told you installation was free, asked him to repeat what he told you (in front of manager). Then, if they didn't stand behind what their employee said, I would tell them I'm walking out, never coming back, and telling ALL my acquaintances about it....

( Kind of a stupid policy if you ask me (nothing is 'free') but that's what the employee said....)

Be better to sell discounted merchandise and charge reasonable install fee.....

A lot of companies are starting to speak like politicians. Say one thing and deny, deny, deny. Sorry they gave you the shaft. Don't get mad, just spread the word.

I don't think your overreacting but I have to side with Norm, do all your $$ rite in front of the cash register, it's a sad fact of 'today" and how companies deal with the people that keep them in bussiness. They don't give a sh** about us, the small guy who keeps making them $$!!

Yeah.....remember that thing called customer service? Since the big corps have pushed all the small business out they can act like the government. You don't like it? Tough sh!t.

When traveling, I've noticed a huge difference in "customer service" between Canada and other countries.
You may be experiencing the loss of something you had, whereas here in Canada we won't miss something we've never had. Customer service in the US is far superior to what we have here.

To me the most shocking part of your story was that you had been to ABC Warehouse and that you've visited their store again. I've only set foot in an ABC Warehouse once and I can honestly say I would never go back again for any reason. High pressure salesmen that follow you around. I can't imagine what kind of people they have doing car stereo installations.

The ABC Warehouse I go to is not the cleanest store I've ever been in, but they don't follow me around and hound me either. They greet me at the door, ask if they can help, I tell them I'm just looking, and they say to let them know if I need help. That's it. No following me, no high pressure. Maybe it's because I look like I don't have a dime to my name sometimes (on purpose :tiphat:). The salesman was in training, and his trainer gave me the impression that he was not happy to be there. The install tech, who actually worked for another ABC store (he was just putting together some speaker boxes), talked like he knew exactly what he was saying. He even walked out with me to the lot to look at my truck. He said he wanted to make sure my truck wasn't going to be an extensive install. He said i wasn't, just pull the original radio, install the kit, crimp on the harness adaptor, and slide in the radio. He said the time would be less than 30 minutes. His store is 40 miles away, I might call and see when he's there. Maybe I'll go see him, but I'm not sure. I know its just $40, but with my budget I have to save every dime I can. They advertise free install on their flyers, they ought to honor that.
You're right, customer service went right down the toilet.o_O
