Well I might as well add this one on here. When the Subaru died I needed a replacement. And I wanted a Volvo. They are light and have decent power and last forever. So I searched high and low and found this one. Paid a whole $850 for it. It is a salvage title but that is ok with me. It will double as the DD and play toy. It seems to have more power than the wife's 940 turbo. But beyond the airfilter I don't know what was done to give more oomph. After I got it I added an exhaust that included a 3 inch cat, muffler and pipe from before the cat back. I bought the cat, a 5 foot of 3 inch pipe)used very little of it) and 2 160 degree mandrel bent pipes. I then cut the bends as needed and the wife welded them up to make the up and over the axle and tailpipe. Then I wanted to lower it so I gathered the parts to do a coilover setup on it. I am running a 325lbs 10 inch spring. Right now the back is just a cut stock spring.
Next I needed to get rid of those ugly wheels that were on it. I had intended on a set I bought off craigslist. But they eneded up being a nightmare. So when I had a buyer for the wife's choptop I made him 2 offers. One with wheels and tires and one without. He took the car without them. So I bought a new set of adapters and mounted the wheels from her choptop. The tires were new with the exception of being on the car sitting in the garage. They are 18X8's with 225/40's front and 245/40 BFG G-Force Sports. They work quite well in this little car. And last night the wife and I modified the stock seat bracket/sliders to hold the seats that were in my Olds. I forgot how much I liked these seats. They are so comfy and hold you so snug. Now I still have parts to put on. Like the Carrera Coilovers that were intended for the Olds. And an entire 3 inch Intercooler and piping off a Fed Ex truck in a junkyard. BTW there is another set of parts the Olds wagon might donate that most wouldn't expect. The transmission and shifter. Turns out there are guys making adapters to do just this. One guy had claimed the swap freed up about 30hp.
Hardly busy. So much I could've/should've had done. The engine is busted in both the Olds and truck since last year. Migraines are still keeping me down. But a new med may be helping. Feeling better a day or two a week and for longer periods of time. And usually this time of year I am pretty bad. One year I planned on the GM show all weekend. I made it Friday and was pretty bad off the rest of the weekend so I missed meeting alot of people from this forum which I hated.
If it makes you feel any better I have been working on my wagon for over 15 months now and still have a ways to go. As long as I am taking you would think I was doing some kind of new technology top secret build I am also plagued with health issues so I somewhat understand. Health issues suck. I think we can agree. Luckily most of the stuff I have done to this car were 1 day jobs.. Matter of fact now that I think of it they all were. Pulling a 454 from the truck is more than one day so I hate to start and not get back to it for days or weeks. But hopefully soon. It has moss growing under it. Good luck on your project.
Well I got my gauge pods in the mail today and it cooled down some so I threw them in. Need to find places to put the sensors for the water temp and oil pressure.
Looks like a nice ride. I am a big Volvo fan from way back. Had a 122S in high school. The 740 was the last Volvo in which I had any interest. Turbo kinda scares me maintenance wise but must make for a nice runabout. mike
