I purchased this car on Saturday The roof is rusty and vinyl is shot...needs a new roof skin....think I got one...
This is the option and I think it is a factory install. It is in the trunk on the left hand side... The car is well optioned with air cruise tilt power seats and 400 motor... No clutch fan or sunroof or factory mags....but has power windows and locks...and the fender skirt package... Well back to the little box in the trunk the owner did not know what it was for..
Need more info.... Any wires hooked up to it? Any tubing? How much does it weigh? Is there a FoMoCo part# on it? Just be careful. If it goes 'tick, tick, tick', leave it alone.........
Back around then, Mopar, GM and Ford were installing Air-purifiers on the luxury models, for folks that has pulmonary issues. Don't know if that's Ford's version. Mopar had it run off the AC ducts under the dash.
There is no wires to it and it does not have any ticking sound...Had not thought of the ticking sound....There is tubing to it....That was my first thought was some kind of air purification unit Norm but it is not....I have read somewhere of this option on this era of cars but never seen one and did not visualize this.....There are no part numbers visible to the eye and it is bolted to the car...The object has a black plastic feel to it...
It seems to be pulling in interior air from the back seat panel. What for? That's the question. Nothing underneath the car, for a clue? My old 1975 T&C had one, but it was on the passenger side under the dash. You changed the charcoal filter every 2 years or so, unless there was a lot of pollen.
No it has nothing to do with air Norm...It is the first one I have seen...When crawled underneath the car then it became apparent what it was...
Tick... Tick... Tick... When will the other shoe drop? FF, You will enjoy this site! http://oldcarandtruckpictures.com/Airflow/
I had my faith all set for go with Norm with ability to ferret out info....I read in a listing somewhere of this option....I never seen one before on a Ford car and I think it is a factory option...V/W had a close thing to it...
My buddy in the South has a 37 two door airflow and he lets me drive it...I jist am in lust for it...
You got it Blackfoot....you beat Norm....and he was distracting me with the Chrysler stuff also.... There is a Y just under the fuel filler that goes into the fuel tank...It lets you fill up both tanks at the same time...There is a fuel line that goes into the side of the main tank just up a ways from the bottom and out the bottom of this extra tank...I have never seen one before but did read somewhere in a brochure that you could get more fuel capacity in these years and this may be it...I do not want to take it apart to see what makes it tick cause you would not likely be able to get any parts or seals for it...I will look at it more today as not had much time yesterday... You da winner Blackfoot....
If you ever have to detail a 392 Hemi, here's a couple nice pics: http://chrysler300country.com/392_hemi.htm Here's the other Hemis: http://chrysler300country.com/heart_of_the_beast.htm For these engines, I wish the good old days were still here. Brutally smooth, even stock.
