There were three conversion versions of those--the wagon you see here, the '37 Ford front end, and the wagon with the '37 Ford front end. My parents seriously considered the '37 front-end for our '66 cabrio we had when I was a kid. There was also the one with the Rolls-Royce grille in Cheech and Chong's "Up in Smoke."
I can remember when you could get a 40 Ford or Rolls-Royce hood for your VW from Sears. They even made modle kits of them.
Anyone have pictures of the rear cargo area on one of these? I can't imagine there is a lot of room back there.
The room would be exactly like a Type 3/411 wagon. The freaky ones are the Bug/Transporter mashups I saw on here. The last ones that I think are cool are what I call the "toy Transporters" where the center section's cut out of the microbus and so it makes a funky ultra-short WB vehicle. I wonder what Ferdinand Porsche would've thought of these modded VWs? Certainly not your grandfather's "Hitler Car," to be sure!
I too like the VW woody conversions, especially when completed with the older front sheet metal. This VW Beetle to wagon conversion is a nice alternative to the woodies being built. On the topic of German car to wagon conversions, hats off to the team that created this 1958 Porsche 356 Shooting Brake.
