Hello station wagon nutz, I am a new member thanks for having me. I just got my 9th station wagon that was willed to my son in law.I have been suffering with rectal cancer and my daughter seen this 66 monaco wagon and told Cass my son in law how crazy I would go over this car.Casses uncle bought this car new in1966 and kept it in a garage since new. They knew how much I love wagons and the fight I have had battling cancer and he gave me the car for free because he wants to keep this car in the family. The interior is mint, all I need is an interior light cover, any one have one?The woodgrain needs refinishing on the exterior but thats all. The glass and chrome is perfect.I am in love with my car.Anybody else have one?Maybe you have a parts car, I think this car is very rare and can't seem to find any in Canada.I will post a picture as soon as I figure out how. Thanks again for having me
Welcome, 66Mopar! Glad you're here. Looking forward to seeing some pics of that big Dodge. We've got at least a couple of folks here that are right from your town - very active members, too! I'll let them introduce themselves. Feel free to jump in with any of our discussions. Having owned 9 wagons, you've certainly got the experience behind you. Marshall
Welcome aboard. The 66 Monaco wagon is one of my favorite Mopar wagons. Looking forward to seeing pics of yours. Is yours the US Monaco wagon or the Canadian 66 Monaco wagon? There were some differences such as engine choices, dash boards, and trim.
thanks for the welcome.Jim your Dodge ad is exactly my car.my car is white with dark woodgrain, absolutly the same car, except mine is red vinyl not brown.I have the same hubcaps and I think they are quite rare. thanks for the photo its the first time Ive seen a picture and it sure looks the same as my unrestored beauty.Ill figure out how to post my pictures . unbelievable. do you know where to find a shop manual maybe haynes or chilton for this car?
Hey 66 FREEEEE, well that was good of them! Hope you are able to enjoy driving your new car. Cancer, there sure is alot of that going around, hope you not in to much discomfort. Post up some pics when you get a chance and I'm sure if those local guys can help, they will. They'll be along soon.
Those wheel covers were optional on the Monaco wagon, but were standard on the 66 Charger, the 66 Monaco 500 coupe, and the 66 Polara 500 coupe and convertible. Although they are difficult to find in nice condition, they aren't especially rare. They do really look good on the Monaco wagon though. I believe theres a few different companies that reproduce the original 1966 Dodge factory shop manuals as well as the 1966 Chrysler Master Parts Book. I expect the shop manual will be pretty easy to find if you do a Googel search. Make sure you get one that includes Monaco and Polara as it may be different from the one that covers Coronet, Charger and Dart for 66. I'm sure you can find it in both book form and as a CD ROM.
Welcome, 66. Hope you are here for a LONG time as well as a good time. That Monaco is a sweet ride. Likely a very, very rare one, too, if it is a Canadian model. I'm sure that Chrysler Canada build very few Monaco wagons, and there are not very many left, I'm sure. Before you redo the wood grain, try using Pledge furniture polish on it. That may help it look a lot better and help you keep it original and unrestored. It is so very rare that keeping it untouched is a wonderful thing to do if you can. What engine is under the hood? The Canadian Monaco had everything from a 225 slant six one BBL through the biggest of the big blocks available. I am not sure if the wagon was available with the 6 or not, but I don't think so. That would be some kind of slow! Good luck getting the pics up. Can't wait to see them!
to the wagon train, 66mopar. I hope you are able to stay a member here for years and years! That's a nice wagon and we sure would love to see it. Make sure you get a Factory Shop Manual rather than the after market stuff. They are out there. How To: Post Pictures in a Thread
I don't know if it is Canadian or American but it came with a 383 2b and single exhaust but I want dual exhaust and a 4b.thats my plan. the woodgrain has been replaced with mac tac.you know that stuff you put on usually interior stuff. the last person that owned it,bought it new and died 2 years ago.he was 85years old he was my son inlaws uncle.he put this mactac on some time ago and it probably looked good before it shrank and wrinkled.hey it still looks good from afar but he used the same dark brown as is on the promo ad that Jim68 cuda sent me.I got 5 or 6 rolls of it .with the car but i dont think Ill use it again.I got this car after not working for along time 8 months as I have been kicking cancers butt so I think I will drive it as it is this summer and maybe this winter I will deal with the woodgrain. thats all I really need other than a inside lightcover lens. I think that small round cover was probably used by most dodges of that era am I right?
A Canadian built 66 Polara or Monaco would have a 66 Fury dash with a squared off speedometer. The US built 66 Polara and Monaco have round guages.
well mine is american because it has round gauges .also i could use a rear view mirror and I wonder if they were genaric in 66 it screws into the windshield trim hey my buddy had what I thought was a 67 and a half cuda it was a long time ago maybe it was 68 is that what you have? what a car two buddies built the 440 super commander and tweeked the transmission.it was the fastest car I ever saw.he never visited a track but he never lost a street race,we had the speedo bottomed out and it kept going. Im pretty sure the speedo went up to160 is that true? like I said that was a long time ago.tell me about your cuda
Since you asked, heres a photo of a 68 Barracuda speedometer. Okay, its not mine. That 240KPH speedo was on a 68 340 Barracuda Formula S convertible that was sold new in Paris, France, and which I had the opportunity to buy (many years ago) but didn't. I have three 68 Barracudas (one 318 fastback thats an older restoration, one 318 convertible that needs body work paint, and top, and one 68 340 S fastback that needs body work and paint), and all have the speedometer that goes to 150MPH that was part of the rally guage package. the standard dash had just a 120 MPH speedometer. Pictures of mine are here http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.100827829964276.288.100001111775214&type=3&l=dd44a48dc0 Now lets see pics of your 66 Monaco wagon. My guess is that any C body rear view mirror from 65-68 (except convertible), would probably fit, but for a specific question like that it would probably be bset asked at "For C Bodies Only" or "Moparts" or at The "C Body Dry Dock". Maybe a salvage yard like Wildcat Auto Parts in Oregon, that specializes in Mopars, might have the mirror you need. Another vendor to check out is Stephen's Performance. Stephens is known for new and reproduction Mopar Parts, but they also have a Mopar only salvage yard.
yeah we bottomed out that speedo and it kept on going we were doing about 170 and he said he still had some pedal left
