Hello my name is Eric and i have a 1965 country sedan with a 390. I am doing an engine rebuild now due to it being gummed up so bad. I removed the valve covers and its a horror scene. Anyone have any cleaning solutions i should use on the heads? Iam gunna hot tank the block but if anyone has any solutions let me know. I have pics of it on my page

I would have those things hot tanked as well. No way you'll be able to get it as clean without getting messy.

If you don't want to pull the engine you could fill the top end with Seafoam cleaner and just let it soak for a week or two adding more occasionally. Some flushing will definitely need to happen. G Gack that's dirty.

These guys are right though to do it proper it would have to be hot tanked.

he had an early seventy's gmc pickup. my dad did an engine rebuild in that and he says it was worse than this one. I don't know what my grampas theory is on putting a car around but its not right. he says he change the oil but from the looks of it it he didn't change the oil much. and his gmc pickup was the same way so I know how is with cars now.

From the looks of it he was using gear lube or just waste oil but neither one counts as maintenance. :rofl2:
