Why does it NOT feel like 50 years since John Glenn first orbited the earth? I clearly remember it very clearly in Black and White sitting in school watching the launch. OMG! I think I'm getting old... The sad part is that we cannot do that anymore. We no longer have the equipment or the ability since there is no public or political interest. Glenn turns 90 years old on Monday.
And let's not encourage the research that's yielded so many useful new products over those 50 years. We need to concentrate on more political/financial wrangling right here on Earth that helps pump our gas prices up to soon to be $5 a gallon!
We love cars, we are "part of the problem" according to the powers that be. I see us as people who are keeping a part of American history alive and well and running. I don't know very many people who don't see a classic rolling down the street and just smile from ear to ear. Not technically advanced not economical but classic and worth the effort all the same. It reminds us of simpler times when our biggest worry was what to do come Friday night. Every time I sit in the front seat of my wagon, I drift back to those times, it's a very happy place to be.
I can't even imagine Cat, for you guys it must be a million times more powerful, the memories must bring you to tears at times.
:2_thumbs_up_-_anima I didn't say ME ! I said those old farts! But from what they've told me it's like relivin the 50's! Sadly thinking we may not be able to find or afford parts or fuel someday soon, is also scary.
I have memories along those same lines, Steve. Teacher would roll out the big TV on a cart, and we would watch the launch -probably did that for at least the first 3 Mercury flights, up to Glenn's. I remember being immersed in 'space' information - studied all about the space program, astronaut training, etc. Did more than one 'book report' on the subject, just like so many boys in that time.....
i actually know someone (preachers wife) they moved here from seattle. She thinks classic cars should be destroyed and put to "better use". i laugh cause i think she wants to puke when i am parked in front of church in summer and i give the throttle a good hard stab to hear the LT1 overature from the 8 cyl sympony orchestra!
Many years ago I had a friend in Illinois, when we lived a mile from the river, always tell me if he could drive my old cars he'd drive them into the river. Some people just don't understand. I don't understand how we are saving the earth by scrapping perfectly good cars to build more cars and junk. What I do understand is people are getting rich off this stupidity.
I hope I don't have any enemies. He was more of a co worker than friend. I couldn't chose my co workers. Other than being car illiterate he wasn't such a bad guy! I realize everyone doesn't think the same as we do about old cars. After all, it's just a way to get to work and back and to the mall !
