1982 Lincoln Continental Mark VI for sale on BaT Auctions - ending June 22 (Lot #76,805) | Bring a Trailer I like the looks of the Mark IV and V better than the VI
Other than being much smaller with a smaller engine, the differences on the VI vs. the V were pretty small. It wasn't until the VII came out that Lincoln really moved out of stodgy old man cars. I really dig the horn control being on the wiper\turn signal arm! I also must say, replacing the ECM, ICM, and a ton of other things under the hood? Either someone really screwed up this car or it was victim to "runs poorly, throw parts at it until it goes away!"
I don't. Ford did that for that steering column design in anticipation of having to install a driver airbag, way back when. My '78 Fairmont had it, and more often than not, when you needed to blare your horn at an idiot, it would turn on the turn signal and/or flash-to-pass, but not sound the horn. Funny story, speaking of the Fairmont: long before I got it, my big bro Fred and I were borrowing it to go do something. Well, some jack wagon pulled out in front of us, Fred hit the clutch and brake pedals, and hit the center button with his hand, cracking the plastic lens (it was the manual steering wheel). I explained to him, as we got going again, that the horn was on the stalk. So, a few weeks later, Dad and I are climbing in, Dad spots the crack in the lens, and asks "Who broke my f$&king steering wheel?" I guess ya had ta be there.... EPILOGUE: I went to a junkyard to hunt up a couple body parts, found a Fairmont with the same blue interior as mine, and the center button was perfect. I found the medallion would pop out with a bit of prying, and so it went out the door in my pocket.
Oh I agree, it's an awful idea. Like the teletouch Edsel that people jammed the buttons on in a panic stop\avoidance issue. I just think it's funny since it's one of those rarely seen things anymore.
