Hahaha, man life is weird. My mother-in-law's brother Forrest just inherited this 1976 Ford Elite below. He's 70-something and has no interest in it, and knowing myself and my brother-in-law are both car guys, reached out to us to see if we wanted it. If I squint really hard I can almost see Starsky and Hutch... Looks pretty solid... He and the car are way up in Indiana, so have no idea how I could get it... There was a '75 model at the the Bastrop cruise-in last fall. These won the award for tallest hood ornament of the 1970's So very 70's......
In 1974 they called them a Torino Elite, but in 75-76 Ford treated them as a separate model. They were a baby Thunderbird and sold VERY well at the time. I'm not a fan of the opera windows or the 2-headlight design. But they are on my list of cars to watch out for at the yards because they were generally better kept than most Torinos, so I might score some decent seats and plastic bits. Sadly the rear bumpers are the Cougar style so the fillers won't work for me. Derby guys LOVE those pointy front bumpers.
Theres a survivor lime green metallic one of those running around my neighborhood. Only one I've seen in the last 20 years. That red one looks straight and solid.
I like it! It would look great next to the '78 Country Squire. The wheel covers are for the '75 to '78 LTD and '84ish to '87 Crown Vic. So you want some 8 tracks and a suit, eh? I dressed up as "your '70s prom date" last Halloween and drove the '78. I got a TON of people taking pictures of me and the wagon.........wish I got one for myself. What I normally look like when its not Halloween.

ahh....Elites....... Elites were one of those cars that by the time I was in high school in Pennsylvania (84-88) every school parking lot had at least one of them in it. One guy I went to high school with had 4 of them in his family. They were the cars of sort that just kind of disappeared overnight, even out here in the desert. I didn't think much of them then, but they sure stand out now....every so often I'll run into one out here. I've even seen a 70's vintage Ranchero with an Elite front clip on it and it actually looked pretty slick. I would grab it, as it's from the disco era, and not many 70s cars have been saved proportionate to their production.
