In about 1986 or so, my neighbor had a Ford Elite coupe like this, same year and colors. He kept that polished and clean as the day it was built. I'd told him on a few occasions that if he wanted to sell that car, I was very much interested. When he died, I was deployed. His wife apparently couldn't wait to sell off his stuff, because she had an auction not two weeks after he was buried. I found out that the car sold for $450. After all, it was an 11-year-old used car in the late '80s, with a 460.
It's a neat car for sure, but I still find it hard to accept it being labeled an XR-7. It's kind of like the Mustang II Cobra II of the late 70s (don't get me wrong, I actually like the Mustang II) but it isn't what it was. It's kind of a shameless attempt to garner desire for a "new" model with memories of a glorious past model and yet the two share nothing but a name. You know what I mean?
