Looks like a 6,300 mile museum piece to me. IMO no Maverick interior could be that nice after 100k miles.

My M-I-L had a first-year 1972 4-door Maverick. Since the wife's '68 6-cylinder Camaro wasn't quite reliable at the time, we took the Maverick up the California coast on our honeymoon in January, 1974. No A/C (didn't need it in January) I think it had the 200 6, an AM radio, power steering, and whitewall tires. Oh, and an automatic. She traded it in in '76 for a nice 2-door Chevy (Nova) Concours.

My mom looked at one of these for her first new car. It didn't have a tilt steering column and she couldn't get her knees around the steering wheel. The salesman told her to "just spread your legs!" and chuckled to himself like he was clever. She did not end up buying a car from him. Every time she sees a Maverick she gets super fired up about that greasy sales weasel.

I know this is someone's dream car somewhere but I just do not care for them.

Wow it is bid up to $5974.00 with 2 days remaining, will it beat the Escort? It would be interesting to see if it would beat the Escort in a drag race? If it had the bigger I6 I would say hands down it would be faster. But with the small I6?

It would be an interesting afternoon at the drag strip to see a best of 3 match race between them, and it would take most of the afternoon!

When I was growing up Mavericks were just another used car that didn't match the current style of vehicle and therefore looked out of date. I never paid much attention to them. As time has gone on though I have come to appreciate them. They are actually quite a handsome car in my opinion, especially the early "small bumper" cars. This particular car looks like a real time capsule. It would be fun to own and operate, just for the nostalgia and the "it's something different" factor.

    Well, I was wrong...
The first year for the 4-door Maverick was 1971, not 1972........

Auction Maverick still at $5,974, with 1 day left. My guess this is about $1,900 more than the Maverick stickered at in '74.
