19k miles. Looks like a museum piece. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1973-Mercury-Montego-MX-Brougham-/252111731212?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368
Oooohhhhh, that is gorgeous! It's very rare that the original red paints last these few decades, and it looks factory.
Nice. But lots of surface rust under the hood, for such low mileage. Must have been exposed to some moisture while in storage.
Nice looking car, I think it was stored in a dry area, but I think it was driven in the winter for the 1st few years of its life, not much but just enough to get a light layer of salt on the engine compartment, not washed off, and the surface rust you see is the result. The surface rust is on the lower surfaces of most of the parts, were the salt spray from the road will accumulate. My sister loved those cars, she must have had 10 of them in the 80's. I remember those 351 2bbl's very well 10 to 12 mpg, and not much torque. I always hated driving her cars. The 4bbl versions were alittle better but not much. They all were nice riding cars though. Just couldn't stand the low performance.
Yeah, that's the bummer of the '70s--emissions and poor choices by the engineers. Hell, my Ranchero has 2.47 rear gears, so when I stomp the go pedal, the 351W just doesn't have it. And the car only weighs around 3400 pounds. But as soon as I get the gears changed (I just got a set of 3.50's from a Bronco), and get the engine up to snuff with an AOD chaser, it'll be a much better performer.
Actually, I think the car weighs less, but because Washington State classes it as a truck, I'm loathe to do anything but pay the same weight tax so they don't come after me wondering why I claim a lighter car, since I have a 351W/C4, rather than the original 351M/FMX boat anchor.
It's back. Was traded on a 1966 Galaxie that brought $1000 for trade-in. Always liked those factory deluxe wheel co0vers - give it a very rich look. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1973-Mercury-Montego-MX-Brougham-/252139007539?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368
