From HMN online today. If Rockford had started a couple of years earlier..... This Civilized-looking 1972 Pontiac Firebird Formula Packs a 455 Punch | Hemmings
Nice car, even has A/C on a 4-speed 455 H/O! Almost unobtainium! But the Vinyl top ruins it for me, and as much as I like the looks of Pontiac Honey Comb rims, I just can't justify how much they weigh. When I had my 72 T/A back in the early 1980's I removed and sold the stock Honey Combs, and put on a set of Ralley II's, not exactly light wheels either, but they are over 8 lbs a wheel lighter, and seemed to make a large improvement in the cars handling. Plus I Pocketed around $200 profit on the deal. So I thought it was a win win. My 72 T/A also had the rear seat center console, what a silly option IMO. No adult will ever sit back there, and it really only boasts an extra ash tray. But it is a very very nice 2nd Gen Firebird.
Bull. My leading Petty Officer had a '79 T/A, and I rode in the back, behind him as he drove. We were on our way to watch a PPV of a Sugar Ray Leonard fight. That rear seat was in name only. I had a backache for two days.
Sounds similar to my 45-mile ride (and then the return trip) in the back of a 1977 Datsun 280Z 2+2. A Realtor was taking us out to Agua Dulce to see a house for sale.
A realtor with a 280Z 2+2 ? Realize that most Americans were probably thinner 45 years ago but still.
It's the same. Those back seats were made for Munchkins. Hell, I have a tighter fit behind the M II's steering wheel, than I do a Pinto's wheel. Go figure.
