That has the first grille redesign, aimed at appealing to families, as opposed to the previous narrow grille (what I call the 'Kaiser Jeep' grille). I had a friend back then whose dad had a new '73 with that grille, I remember it oh, so clearly.

I have to say I appreciate all generations of Wagoneer grilles. But my absolute favorite is the original. I get why they did what they did to keep evolving the design. But in my opinion the original is the best. ;)

    You had the Tonkas.

I had the Wagoneer, the pickup, the dump truck (I *loved* the hydro lift cylinder) and the cement mixer.

I had the tonkas too, hand me-downs from my brother. I also had the newer style "Honcho" style by Nylint. And I might still have it up in my attic in good shape. I never beat on my toys and kept them nice. I also remember having a smaller scale Wagoneer like this example that had a opening tailgate. I think I even have a Jeepster with a trailer and boat - the boat having metal flake paint.
You guys never cease to jar out old memories nearly forgotten!

    That's perfect. I love it.

I actually went down the rabbit hole on these once. According to the information I came across all of the Wagoneers had the original panel. It was just adapted for the upgraded grille/headlight combo. If you pull the grille off of a 1991 Jeep Wagoneer behind it you will find the big square hole for the "Kaiser" grille, the large outboard circular holes for the headlights and smaller circular inboard holes for the vents (or foglights)

Yeah, either in my Pixel phone or on my laptop, I found a guy a few years ago, did the same thing to his '77 or '78; I may have even posted it on here. He even had the old Jeep steel wheels and center caps, very nice backdate for sure. I didn't even think to look inside, but I wonder if he had any of the Grand Wagoneer amenities, like power everything and leather seats?

As for the Tonkas, I also had the Jeepster with boat and trailer, in powder blue.
And no, I actually played for keeps with mine, lost all of them. I managed to find an Argo ATV and a few of the smaller nicks and nacks from Tonka over the last thirty years, including a pair of Torino Rancheros, one blue, one red, from the Mighty Tonka Car Carrier.

Talk about bringing back memories! Thank you! It makes my heart feel young again, if only for a moment.
The only one I had that isn't shown was the Wagoneer.
