Not a wagon, so I didn't post in the for sale section, but I ran across this local '68 Buick Special Deluxe 2dr sedan. I guess it was the base version of the Skylark and I have never even seen one before. This one has been setting for a long time, it has a really old Tennessee plate on it. I bet now you cannot even see the car for the shrubs, as these pics were taken in the late winter/early spring it appears. I cannot find my old car guide, I wonder how many were made? http://tricities.craigslist.org/cto/4561159459.html
When I washed cars at the car rental place in Jacksonville, we had a bunch of them, some were Buicks, some were Oldsmobiles. Nothing special 29about this plain Jane car, unless you want a lightweight base for a drag racer. Any GM engine will fit in there. The price is about $1000.00 too high, IMO. Did it run when parked?
I'd love to have that 4-door too....... Buick used the 2-door post coupe body for their low-budget 'California GS' model - sort of a competitor to the Road Runner, although the base 350 engine wasn't much.
Poor Special! The Olds F85 and the Pontiac Tempest were its counterparts at the other divisions of BOP.
I think some people think that if they set them free in the wild they'll fend for themselves kinda like leaving a cat/dog on the side of the road when you it tired of it...it just doesn't work out? I really hate seeing these pics of abandon cars...sad just sad.
When it was new, it was nothing special. Thing is, between the ones like this poor old girl left to rot, and the number of good ones that have been taken apart to save the more 'desirable' models, these base cars are now quite scarce in their own right. If it is something approaching solid, it would be lovely to see this old girl brought back to life.
Yep, definitely a plain jane, not my cup of tea, as I like the loaded, high end models, I thought it was interesting.
