Howdy! My name is Jerry, and I live in sunny San Jose, CA. I purchased my Falcon in '08, and other than rebuilding the front suspension (with lots of Shelby bits from the Mustang catalog!) I have kept it as-is. It's a 1967 Futura (as the title of this post suggests) and it rolled off the assembly line in nearby Fremont and has been a local car all it's life. I am the 3rd owner. Other than the person I bought it from (who owned it for a year) my wagon has lived with it's original owners, who took mostly good care of it. And "original" definitely describes my wagon. Aside from a crappy repaint at some point in it's life, it's all original! Motor, upholstery, trim, it's all there. My plan is to keep it that way, and except for lowering and some period-correct enhancements, I am keeping it super simple. I already drive it as much as I can, and plan to keep it that way! As it sits: Milage: 135,000 289-2v/C4 Aqua with Aqua interior Futura trim Rebuilt front suspension with relocated UCA mod and lowering springs (#620)
Welcome, sweet little wagon ya' got there. Those lil' 289's are fun engines, I'd keep it too, probably rebuild it with a mild cam myself, but I just like to be able to count the pistons firing. Anyway, welcome to the forums.
I agree, and my near-term plans are to add a 4bbl carb and better exhaust. I wouldn't want to do a cam swap without a tear-down to inspect the bearings. The 289 runs reliably now, and only burns a touch of oil on startup, so that will wait until I am better able to afford a rebuild, which I plan on doing myself, because counting pistons is fun, as you say...
Welcome to the SWF, Jerry! Those Falcons (and Fairlanes) are a good size for a wagon - not too big, not too small. I like what you're doing to it. I happened to notice these on my local Craig's List yesterday, coincidently - chrome sport wheels, probably from a Mustang orTorino GT, 1968 vintage or so. Pretty spendy, but maybe you were looking for some like this. I'm probably only a mile or two from where they are. It you wanted them, I could handle getting them to you - give me a good excuse to see my daughter in SoCal....... http://eugene.craigslist.org/pts/4044752678.html Marshall Here's a page from a '68 Mustang brochure, showing those same wheels: http://www.lov2xlr8.no/brochures/ford/68stang/bilder/9.jpg
I have to agree, those are kinda pricy, but thanks for keeping your eyes peeled. I'm leaning towards some 17" American Racing 5 spokes, which I already mocked up in Photoshop: I also really dig the stance of 60's NASCAR racers, so another possibility is deep steel rims (and no hubcaps) instead, like this: Plenty of time to decide though; I like the original 14" rims well enough to focus on other things for a while before I get to rims.
Just cruising on Craigslist. I had some extra cash in my pocket, and an open mind. Gas prices were high at the time I was looking, and lots of people in my area were selling cool stuff for cheap. This one set me back just $2300 and I have driven it every day since I bought it. Not a bad deal for the money.
