My name is Dan. I'm looking for someone who has some knowledge about the magic tailgate on the old Fords. I have a 1967 Country Squire that is new to me. It has been parked since 1976 and I have no information about its history at all. The tailgate won't do anything at all. The switch on the dash nor the key in the gate. I think that I have to try and get the inside cover off. I've removed all of the screws and the cover doesn't move at all. I'm not sure what kind of wizardry holds it on!! I have power to the dash switch, but I don't think that it's any good. I used my meter and it appears that I have continuity between all 4 wires in every switch position. Any help would be a god send!!!!!
Simple question for you all. Should the tailgate inside cover just fall off with the 14 screws removed?
There is a gasket around the inner perimeter of the tailgate cover, so unless it's been remove before it may take some coaxing to come off.
Thank you very much for the response!! Is the gasket along the very top and along the very outside edge? Or is it like a couple of inches in from the edge all the way around?
there is a row of screws on the cover below the weather strip and against the body. I was able to open the LH Cargo area panel, locate the connector that feeds the window motor and get power to the motor. then we were able to help the window down. once down, we were able to open as a tailgate and remove the cover. my backup plan, should this not have worked, was to locate a replacement cover, and, once received, cut sections out of the existing cover to provide access to the latches.
