No Reserve: 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 LTD Fastback for sale on BaT Auctions - ending October 27 (Lot #58,277) | Bring a Trailer
The car is ACTUALLY a 'LTD' 2-door, not a Galaxie 500. The LTD came out mid-year in the 1965 model year, but it was a 4-oor hardtop ONLY, that year. The 2-door hardtop was added in '66, as well as adding some of the LTD trim, like the specific grill to other models, like the '7-liter', the Galaxie 500 XL, and the Country Squire. I note that the seat upholstery does not appear to be original.
If you look at the torque box sections where the side rails join front & rear rails you can see some welded in patches, plus the trunk floor looks to have also been replaced. Wheel lip and lower rear quarter trim is mia, as a top level Ford it would have come with it. It's a nice enough looking car but not what I thought would wind up on BAT.
not quite Marshall - you're close though, LTD was 2 dr/4dr HT's in 65 and 66 and in '67 they added a 4 dr pillared sedan - all handsome cars. I remember the 65 LTD coupe from a friend in High School who had one, and a family member another - both cars died from frame rust however.
Getting old sucks........things you THINK are correct...... aren't. It was the Chevy Caprice that was ONLY available as a 4-door in '65. HATE making these stupid mistakes. Not the only one lately, either......
Yeppers - and Plymouth's version, the VIP may have come as a "4 door hardtop only" in it's first year too, but I don't remember
Concur with Bill. ‘65 was the first Caprice in 4 door hardtop only. The VIP - 1965 was however available in 4 door and 2 door models. I think they were hardtop a only as well. I know by ‘67 they were hardtops only. I believe 1969 was their last year
You and me both, I'm sure I'm slowly headed for Alzheimers, as it runs in my family. I've forgotten so much that I learned 40 years ago, and I have to re-research it if I want to bring it up in conversation.
