Hi Guys, could somebody help me with a problem on my rear leaf springs please. When I purchased the 1963 Ford Galaxie wagon it had 7 leaf springs each side. Looks like they have been there a long while, maybe from factory? When I purcased new rear shockers for this model from Dearborn Classics they show KYB 63-14835 shocks but they don't fit. They are fully extended when fitted to the wagon so there is only UP travel and no Down travel in them. I have removed one leaf spring from each side to give me 6 a side now but not enough to give me Down travel with these shocks. Can anybody recomend any other shocks that will fit OK? What to do, any help would be appeciated. Edd
I think he is saying extended. it does not appear "HIGH" but if you look at where the springs are under the car they look quite stout the tires are tiny tho that's why is does not sit high I would research a longer set of shocks or a set of extenders for those ones. or remove another leaf
I agree, Longer shockers are needed to give equal up and down travel. Will try GABRIEL 82076. these should do the job, Ill keep you posted.
Edwardio , if its any help I run adjustable Koni shocks on all corners on Pinky with reset springs 2 inches lower than factory and this old longroof drives great with no loss of comfort in ride and handles like a dream on Aussie roads . Nice ride you've got their by the way :2_thumbs_up_-_anima
Hi Dennis, Your setup sounds good for the wagon, what I would like to know is what were the factory number of leaf springs when the wagon was new? Remember your wagon when on sale through Andre Jenkingson of OLD YANKEE IMPORTS, great wagon but the company is gone, finished, sadly. Edd
I can tell you form the pictures your car sits higher than mine. I also had a lowered wagon and had to measure the length I needed and compare on the monroe web site turned out to be the shocks off a 65 ford wagon and were air shocks. I needed them to put anybody in the back seat.
Sorry, I've no suggestions for you Eduardio, but I do want to say you have a beautiful wagon. 63 Country Sedans are close to my heart as that was our family vehicle from '63 to 68.
Edd, sad to see Andre go and I hope he enjoyed the bottle of Chivers I sent him as I could have not dealt with a nicer person during our transaction on Old Pinkbits everywhere we go people just love it and I am surprised a local in SA didn't purchase this great Ol longroof
63 Galaxie Wagon Now Thats what i'm talking about! The 63 Galaxie to me is one of the most beautiful cars i've seen and owned, also am restoring a 63 Galaxie 500XL Convertible. I have now painted this one red and the other pic is one I restored in 1992 and sold in 1998:banghead3:. Dumb move!
Gorgeous drop top, Edwardio. I have a question for you. A friend of mine has a beautifully restored 63 1/2 Galaxy with the semi fastback roof. It's champagne gold and when he restored it, he painted the wheels the same color as the car, like you did on the convertible even though it had the full wheel covers.. I always thought that if the car came up with the smaller hub caps, the wheels would be the body color, but if it had full wheel covers, they'd be black. He swears I'm wrong, but I seem to remember that was the way they made them. Do you know?
Not sure on that one, I saw a 63 Galaxie convertible photo in a USA magazine called Collectable Automobile that was red with red wheels and full wheel covers and it looked so good I did the same. My 63 Wagon is white with full wheel covers and I painted the wheels black. As i'm not a purist I guess its up to the individual owner to decide what color. Edd
