Yeah I agree, if I can find the original designers drawing of this model they are attractive, but when the engineers tried to make it out of metal with parts that could be assembled on the line? Well this is the resault.
This was also the era of the 3 Martini lunch. Cars, and a few other things men are attracted to, can look better than they really are after a few drinks.

If I remember correctly the steering wheels on some early 60s MOPARS were a clear plastic with gold / silver ? flakes inside. Super futuristic look. Shame the wheel in this one is just wrapped in black. Kills the vibe the designers were going for. Maybe someone out there can do a reproduction.
