1960 Galaxie

Came across 1960 Galaxie in a Georgia estate sale. 2dr sedan was lowest selling Galaxie model. So is rare among remaining 1960 Fords. Straight, clean, original interior. Originally had 292 V8 and 2-speed automatic. As found has cammed 460, 3-speed automatic (C6), front disc brakes. More power than hottest ones had when new. Runs, shifts, and modified suspension handles fine. Does have typical old car issues to get fixed. Am starting on them now. Should have most taken care of over the winter.

Our next-door neighbor had one of those when I was a kid. I always thought the back end looked like it was crying.

 

Funny how we see cars in different ways and the memories remain. Some are smiling, some are crying, some look very sexy, and there are still other memories of cars.
And of course there are those we think are down right ugly.
To us our 1941 Ford is smiling.

I remember when the 57 Chevys were coming out, lots of people around town canceled their order because those cars were so ugly. Who'd a thunk now they appear so beautiful.
To me all Edsels are nice looking.

My friend had an old dodge Dart. We used to tease him how ugly it was. I saw one just recently and commented to my wife how beautiful it looked.

 

Very nice. Heres a similar one that occasionally shows up at our local cruise in at Manassas, Virginia.

I was a 'Chevy kid' back in the early 60's, much preferring that brand over the Fords. 1960 was different, though. While Chevy I think took a step back in design from '59 to '60. The all-new '60 Ford was rather sleek. I was kind of disappointed when the '61's came out to see that Ford had virtually abandoned the unique styling of the 1960 Ford for something more mundane. Same greenhouses, but the body just wasn't as nice.....

Really scoots down road with 460 under hood.
Manual steering means good upper body workout when parking.
60s are big Fords. Longer than 59 & 61. Same width as 59 Cadillac.

 

Didn't the '60 or '61 have a version that had a 152 MPH top speed? And I think it was with a 352.

Width really shows up in engine photo as very nice clearance between heads and inner fender. Super clean swap job on that 460.:2_thumbs_up_-_anima

 

Biggest engine was a 300hp 4-barrel 352.......
I thought the 406 was available in '60, but apparently that didn't come along until '62.... The 352 was replaced by the 390 in '61.....and the 292 was replaced by the 332 the same year.
