So everything was going far too smoothly, decided on an oil change from one of those Mr Lube's and from the moment I got my car back it hasnt been the same.
As soon as I turned the ignition on, I could hear a straining roar from the engine, alot of rattling and jerking, and then cut out, it did at the traffic lights and when in traffic which is quite dangerous.
It did it in PARK and also in OVERDRIVE/ DRIVE.
I decided to take it on the highway to see if it reacted ok, and yes it was fine at higher speed's just lower speed and standing still seems to be the problem areas.
One thing I think i noticed was a lack of response when flooring the accelerator.
I took it straight back to ask what exactly did they do to my car, and they said nothing but change the oil, I opened the hood and turned the ignition so they could hear the noise, and there was a hissing noise that I didnt first catch, it seemed like a leak of air or suction.
The guy still said that they didnt touch anything, but they must have as it was running great before I took it there.
I got it back home, and could smell something burning from the engine which I put down to perhaps some oil spillage.

So im asking you guys if you have encountered this situation or any ideas on what it could be, ive researched a bit, and have come across a whole load of 'could be this' advice.
Some say too much fluid topped up, which would make sense as they did do this.

I not the most clued up on engines so dont mind getting a qualified mechanic in, but wouldnt mind some collective knowledge from fellow wagoners.

    Thanks

Hissing sound? That's a new one for me. Is it an EFI equipped engine? I can't imagine much more than an open vacuum line, or a cracked vacuum reservoir or a busted heater or AC hose.

What all did they lube, Trans and Engine only? I'd check around where they had to service or lube and maybe the air filter. That's really a rare sound, if you can't detect the source quickly.

Others will have to chime in on the newer fuel systems like EFI. I don't know anything about them.

You should tell them to take a Before pic, and check their work. Good for you.

I would'nt feel dumb at all, your not a car guy (mechanical) but you had the guts and brains to go back and say "what the???" when your car did not run/drive as it did before they touched it. Big Bonus you found the problem your self:2_thumbs_up_-_anima......I hate to say it, but it's true that if you ended up needing to bring it to a shop because, the chances are greater that you would have been charged for mufler bearings and needing the air rotated in your tires...not the tires them selves but the air and given a heafty $$$ bill for what you found.

    Kudos for you:2_thumbs_up_-_anima

EDIT> If it sounded like I attacked mechanics, why yes I did! There are honest shops and mechanics out there. Trouble is finding the 1 out of 100............

:rofl2::rofl2::rofl2: Muffler bearings. Haven't heard that since the army (late 60s)

Air rotation is new though! :rofl2::rofl2::rofl2::evilsmile:

Unless they start acting like they care about the people and the country, with more than lipservice to integrity, people will get past apathy and let the Un decide if we're interested in what was supposed to be a great democracy. I think when the votes get down to 20% of eligible voters, it no longer qualifies. Can you imagine the chaos!

Some of these quick oil change places kill me. I had the same thing happen to me but you already found it yourself. They knocked off a vacuum line on my car once but I knew what it was right away....still irritated me. They should have known what happened immediately when you brought it back and they could hear it.

Was it the PCV Valve? That would have made a gapping hole for air to get sucked in to the manifold or carb/efi causing a very lean condition resulting in bogging etc...

I used to be a grease mokey, and I have a lot of family ask me if stuff is real. Some of the new stuff I have to look up, so don't feel bad for an "EASY" fix.

Easy to some, rocket science for others.....

Glad you found it. Gotta love those free fixes!!! Just had my wifes car get the 50,000 mile service, with new tires.. OUCH!!

These quickie-lube joints are fairly notorious for getting-in over their heads. It's not like you're gonna' find Rhodes-scholar candidates working there. You'd think that it would be in the company's best interest to have at least one SAE-rated mechanic on staff (they're alot cheaper than attorneys).. :D..

I've got an old Jimmy S-10 pick-em-up and, about a year ago, I went to start it. I let go of the key just a moment too early, and it somehow sparked on an open valve with a loud, schnorting manifold back-fire. I restarted, and went to pull away, and the engine started bucking and wheezing. "Oh, tee-F'g-riffic" I thought. I was convinced that I had just skipped the timing-belt. I popped the hood to investigate, and (you guessed it) I was greeted with a delightful sucking noise. The back-pressure had popped the PCV cork clean outta' the valve-cover, rubber gasket and all. I found and replaced the gasket, poked the "cork" back in, and the truck drove-off like an old lady with a new hat. Don'tcha just love it when a plan quits fallin' apart?.. :yup:..
