I was getting the 85 Ford Country Squire worked on,when the garage owner mentioned that he had a customer that was selling a 1978 Chrysler New Yorker. Yeah, I know it's not a wagon. The garage gave me her phone# and I called her. I went to look at it and it's really nice. It's a 4 door hardtop with the Brougham trim. Leather seats, factory CB,Power everything. The car is a light metallic blue with light blue roof and interior. It only has 38K miles on it. She wanted around 5 grand for it though. But this car was really nice. I took it for a test drive and it drove great. The price isn't bad but this car isn't for me. I had a great time looking at it anyway. I'm waiting to hear back from a friend who's into Mopars, maybe he'll snatch it.
It is a pretty good deal. I almost would take it, but I have my sights on a 96 Roadmaster a friend of my Dad's is wanting to sell me...
Had to refresh my memory as to what a '78 New Yorker looked like. This was the last year for this body......
It was a very nice ride, this one didn't have the skirts on it. I drove it down the road and back, it needed valve cover gaskets and it had a noisy A/C compressor(Needs replacing it didn't work anyway). Most of the paint is original with a couple of touch ups. The car shows really nice. This car would be totally at home in a AACA show. Even with a smogged out single exhaust 440 4 barrel,it still had a little kick to it. If I hadn't have already the 73 and 85 Ford wagons I would stick it in my driveway. And then there's this 96 Roadmaster wagon I might get....
Those late 70's New Yorkers are my favorite sedan! I would love to have one! They just look so classy. Did it have that "soft Corinthian leather" like Ricardo Montalban used to say in the Chrysler commercials? 38,000 miles and only $5,000 is a steal!
Oh yeah, she had leather and it was in excellent shape. A buddy of mine may buy it.( I hope he does)...
HBH...i have to say NO to at least one car every 2 weeks....i bought one last week...i just couldnt see it scrapped....i feel your pain pal
........... ......k...seriously...this was on a truck headed for the scrapper...mind ya...i gave scrap price..... as soon as i remember where i put my camera...i'll show ya...63 Mercury Monterey 2dr breezeway
A 1978 4dr for $5000, sounds a bit high! I owned a 1969 2dr new yorker hard top, with a auto, 440, factory A/C, 75k original miles, edlebrock carb, and intake manifold, and I could only get $2500, and that took me a year to get that!
