Howdy all; I just joined the group this morning. I've been lurking here for a while absorbing all of the wagony goodness. Not being able to afford a real wagon back in the day, my first car was an 84 Reliant wagon. It didn't hold a candle to my father's Belair and Sport Suburban wagons but it was a start and I've been hooked ever since. Strangely, I've not purchased a wagon since and only found them when I wasn't in a position to buy it. I've been hunting for a GM B-Body wagon for the last few months. I finally sold my 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis this morning so now it's time to begin the hunt in earnest. I've learned a lot by prowling through here over the last few months and I'm sure that will continue. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute once I get my hands on just the right set of wheels.
and.......How much of your $$ do we have to spend? Good luck with your hunt and post your findings, you'll get alot of help!:2_thumbs_up_-_anima
The original plan was to sell my Merc GM for $3500, which would easily cover the $2400 asking price of the '92 Caprice with fresh paint and a rebuilt engine that I was eyeballing. The Caprice needed a bit of work and had a 305ci. Now that I've seen a number of Roadmasters in better shape, I'm leaning away from that Caprice. I'm currently watching a '93 Roadmaster and a '96 Collectors Edition not too far from me that are at $3000 and $3500 respectively. The Merc overheard me suggesting that I sell it and suddenly decided that it needed ball joints, a tie-rod, brake work, exhaust work and a few other goodies I wasn't aware of. The exhaust work didn't appear until 4 days after my emissions test when she started to get noticeably throaty. Clearly I offended her. The final insult was when she managed to take an 8x32 machine bolt in a rear tire last night before my potential buyer showed up this morning. Needless to say he was somewhat concerned to discover that what I claimed to be my daily driver was sitting on a flat tire when he arrived this morning. I wound up taking only $500 for the Merc just to keep her from more mischief while sitting in the driveway. Of course, now I'm a little shy on cash to purchase the wagon I want so I'll have to keep driving my Parisienne, non-wagon, summer car while I squirrel away some dough to reach my $3000-$4000 goal. I still have a nice set of snows to sell and a few other odds and ends but it will still probably be a month or two before I'm ready to buy.
and I hope you enjoy your stay, And I don't think WE will have any trouble spending YOU'R money on any thing you wish we are real good at that!!!!!!!!
Another Canuck! Look for rustfree. Eastern townships in Quebec, or out here in the Prairies. Gonna be a challenge out your way. Good to have you aboard.
I'm really surprised just how many have turned up over the last few months that I've been looking. There have been at least 5 that looked pretty good. The two that I'm watching now have both got rebuilt engine and tranny and appeared to have loving parents. Last week a Beautiful '94 Caprice wagon turned up in the AutoTrader. Two-tone seafoam green and grey, complete with seniors posing in the photo. Cert and e-tested for $2900. It was gone before the week was out. It took forever to unload my Mercury so I had to let quite a few slide by. The Mrs. grandparents live in Owen Sound. A lotta rust up there, but a lot of retirees too. I don't understand the appeal, but Owen Sound is to Ontario what Florida is to the U.S. I have difficulty driving up there while watching all of the cars parked on the roadside for sale. As much as I dislike driving up there, it's easier now that I'm car hunting. The local classifieds must be empty up there based on how many roadsiders there are. I'll extend my searches by a few provinces from now on and see what turns up.
I hate it when the car hears you talkin smack.... i always pat the Gwen s dash when i need her to behave from the other coast
...i tried it with the girlfriend...but she doesnt like it when i call her by other names...or when i refer to her tush as the 'dashboard' ..k...cereal...yes Fannie...'Gwendylyn' is my 63 Falcon woodie named after her original owner
