Looking at a Datsun 510 Wagon. Does anybody know anything about these? What are their weak points? What are their strong points? Are interior parts hard to find? Purple
There are a few Dat wagon guys here, purp. They don't frequent the place but if they show up they will chime in. I like those wagons but don't know enough to answer your questions. You might google Datsun sites.
My impression of Datsun 510s and Datsuns in general from back in the 70's was that the drive trains were strong and that IRS in the back was genious. However, the interior materials used was rather poor IMO and didn't last for the length of the loan. Rust can be a real bad problem with limited availability of replacement steel for them. BUT THEY ARE SOOOOOO COOL!!!! If I could buy one in decent condition for a decent price I'd have one in a heartbeat!
Depends on the year, because the early ones had a horrible rust reputation (pre-70's) They used too much scrap iron, and not enough steel. My only other comment, also comes from one of the early Canadian dealers. The parts would often change in mid-year or more often, especially fuel and engine components - Carbs, pumps, vacuum controls, etc. The dealer complained that Datsuns were over-engineered and under-built. They'd often stop making carbs from the last quarter to stop the warranty claims. After 1970, I have no idea. They look solid and crisp and seem to hold their own. Hope that helps.
, what year your after would help but I think evry one has you covered. All I will ad, as mentioned allwready is RUST, they almost invented the name
look for rust in the front frame rails and shock towers(bottom)...rockers..floors otherwise...bitchin cars man ....now get off the computer and go find one
