I attended a classic car auction in Vegas years ago, and as part of a musclecar collection a Buick GSX Stage 1 (1970?) was being auctioned with a matching GSX coupe.

Both had the same GSX color scheme: yellow/black.

I'm unable to locate much GSX wagon info online. Can anyone here offer more info?

    Thanks

Here's the only one I've found:

Hate To Burst Your Bubble, But There Were Not Any 'factory' Gs Or Gsx Wagons Built. Just Like The 442 Wagons, They Were Aftermarket Conversions, Or Homebuilt...jon

Once again, sorry for my screw-up. I took speed-reading in University, and they told us we'd have 80% retention for 24 hours. Ha! Now that I'm over 40, CRS has consumed my brain (Can't Remember S!it!) within 10 seconds! :)

I really don't have a bubble to burst, just going on what I saw and what made sense at the time.

    Here's the scoop:
A rich man collected a couple dozen correct, muscle cars but pledged them as collateral on a loan. He defaulted on the loan and the lender repossessed them. Before the lender could liquidate them they either failed or were shut down by the Fed's.

It was the Fed's who sent the collection through the auction at the Desert Inn in Vegas.

I looked over the collection and everything I saw appeared to be the real deal, even an original, first year Shelby Cobra with a transverse leaf front suspension, one step removed from a British AC Ace.

One of the other extremely rare cars in the collection was a '67 Z28 Chevrolet with the aircleaner ducted back to the cowl like a current NASCAR system, but it was a factory design for TransAm racing. The aircleaner was fed air from a duct running from the base of the windshield down through the cowl vents. It's referred to as a "cowl plenum duct".

Some dude was down on his knees looking under the car when I walked up, and I was surprised to see Reggie Jackson stand up to his feet. I simply asked him, "Reggie, do you think it's real?". He replied, "I don't KNOW, man, but I've heard of this car before but never seen one".

There were two, Stage II GSX's in the collection, a yellow/black coupe and a yellow/black matching wagon. I remember it clearly since they made quite an impression sitting side by side.

Since nothing else in the collection appeared to be a clone (including Hemi Cuda's and Challengers), I always thought the wagon was a rare, maybe "one off" from Buick.

I guess I was wrong. Or like mentioned above, some hi-perf dealer created it since the Stage II options were dealer add's.

btw: Reggie bought a few cars, but I didn't see him buy the Z28.

Right you are, I spent the last 10 years on v8Buick.com and have seen several people convert regular Skylarks to GS cars or GSX wagons. Doubt if anyone started with a real GS and certainly not with a real GSX. One guy even did a GSXcamino which looked like a factory built car.

Now my guess is a Buick performance dealer must've created the new GSX clone wagon using the options available for the coupe.

    It was cooler'n shlt.
