New here and I´m planning on buying a 74 Mercury Marquis. Have not seen the actual car yet, and I´m not exactly certain what the 74 looks like. Anyone interested in posting a picture of such a land yacht? Would be very grateful, and maybe post some facts concerning the model. Thank you all for preserving the yachts!! Ulf Sweden
Totally awesome, thanks so much silverfox. If the price is right I probably buy it without checking it out.
Not sure I would do that, nikkebakken. This is the age of the computer and I would have the seller send as many pix as possible before throwing money at a car sight unseen.
Fox is rite, you want pictures and lots of them, and lots of information about the car. Has it been hit, rebuilt, did a bird poop on it once. Ask lots of questions no matter how crazy they may seem Here is a great example of the kind of pictures you want, and you want lots, inside, outside, under, over, etc. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1962...iewItem&pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item43a07346ff Good luck in your search
Hi guys, First of all I have to explain myself. Of course I will check out the 74 Merc thoroughly before i consider buying it. Me saying," -I´ll probably buy it without checking it out", was merely an expression for being enthusiastic that it looked so overcool. I sorry if I caused any problems while trying to express myself. However, I´m deeply impressed how stationwagoners take care of each other even if they come from another country. Astonished I am. Finally I have another question: Did the 74 Mercury come with a rear axle limited slip? Where I live, we have a lot of snow in the winter ( yes winter ) and since we also have been blessed with a lot of hills, it would be great to have a car with limited slip. Thanks again folks, you rock. nikkebakken
It was optional. I have given you a link below that covers the codes for 1970's Mercury including the wagons. If the seller doesn't know if it has posi then you can get the codes off the car from him and check it against this list. It will also give you other info....such as engine, gear ratio, etc.... http://www.mercurystuff.com/pdfs/1970-ford-lincoln-mercury-vehicle-identification.pdf
Here's another link to more wagon model pix from 1974..... http://www.wingedmessenger.net/Brochures/74wagons.pdf
Snow? I think I remember that from my youth... I haven't even seen a snow tire since....humm.. oh yes it was 1971 when I lived in Arkansas. Snow is white and falls from the sky sometimes in what is called winter.
No problem, nik. I don't know how much info is available to you so if you need anything else just ask. Happy to help.
Welcome to the forum. Just a thought on your search... We have a member here by the name of 'Hullinger' He lives in Delaware, and did own a 1972 Mercury Colony Park that he found (with our help) in San Diego, California. After buying it, he did a lot of stuff to it, but alas, had to sell it. It was for sale as recently as this past June in Craig's list, but I haven't seen any new ad for it lately - so he may have sold it. The wagon originally had the 'wood' on it, but doesn't anymore. Body is white. It's a solid car. -- You might want to send a PM to Hullinger to see if he still has the wagon. The '72 Mercury wagons were fairly similar to the '74 that you're looking for. main difference is the '72 doesn't have the big huge impact absorbing bumpers that the '74 would have. There are some other trim differences, etc.... Here's the gallery page for Hullinger's wagon: Here's one pic:
Thanx Krash (kool spelling btw), But for me to import that car to Sweden would cost me an extra $3000, and that is to much for me. Thanx anyway for your concern.
