NO affiliation Worth saving? http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/cto/1804948341.html This one tempts me but I've had too many cans O worm opened when doing brake line repairs. In photos it looks well preserved, at least for this area.
Just count on a complete brake overhaul. Pads rotors lines master cylinder, maybe power booster. Swapping out brake parts isn't that bad as long as you've got the tools. Factory pre-bent lines help, as I'm not good at making those double-flairs.
He doesn't say what engine it has.....didn't some of these have a diesel option? If so they had a hydro boost power assist instead of a vacuum booster & those can be some $$$$.
It would be nice to have pre-bent or at least straight pre-made lines long enough. I don't like extra fittings (unions/potential leaks) so always end up bending and flaring my own. I'm no good at it either and typically need more than one try on each double flare. Oh, don't foget all the flexible lines, proportioning valve and the rusty fuel lines you'll be bumping into. Nightmare job. I've got the tools and a lift.
For that money I would think you will have a lot of work to do. To me, in the same type of area you are in, bad brake lines almost always means that they are rusted out. That usually means the rest of the car's underside is also. That may be why it needs a new exhaust system, too. I love these 80's Electra's. One of my favorite cars but, if it was me, I would take a really hard look before I threw 500 bucks at it. That 500 may be just the first installment on a long list of problems. I have looked and looked for one of these late 80's Electra's in the past and still do look.....I have never seen one worth anything at that price. If the car is near you....take a look under it, etc and see what you think.
I'd agree, the rust never sleeps, and it's probably up in the rear quarters, rockers, frame rails, etc.
LOL....well...if I asked you to look and you found it to be cherry....would I still have a shot at it?? I AM curious but would not ask you to look because I think it will be a waste of time. OTOH....IF it is real close...why not take a look? Probably won't last long at that price if it could be fixed up cheap for a driver.
The rear wagon-specific glass qualifies for the Noah Principle - spare parts... The roofrack. a few spare moldings. Ah come on Ross, you know you want it.
