... just want some opinions... When I buy a new car I will have to drop my current car.

Is the new one worth it?

I am interested in this car:

Cool looking wagon. Not worth $8300 in the US. Not in that condition. But I'm not familiar with your currency exchange rate.

Well let's say that my current car put me down for $6800... Prices here are a bit higher. then again; before I have a car situated in America to The Netherlands I have to pay about $3000 shipping, customs, paper work etc. etc.

How often do you see a '61 Pioneer? I know of two in Europe, so it's pretty rare.

What are the prices in America then?

Anyway, I'm planning to see this car next week to see if it's worth it for me. :)

    Why, Krash?

I think 1961 is the coolest Mopar year ever. All cars are very exclusive, all look a bit out of proportion (they heard Chevy was downsizing so they took the scetches and tried to downsize some of the full- and midsize sketches) and they are uniquely styled for one year only.

I really love the drooped front (it kinda looks like Droopy in fact :p) and the reversed fin with the round backlight is so funky and unique that you either hate it or love it.

Aaaaaaand.... My girlfriend fell for this styling from day one...Half a year ago one with a very pretty color was for sale and she talked about it constantly. She is not too fond of this particular one because the paint is patina and the front seat is from a Catalina but she does love the reversed fin and rear light, only to be found on '61 Mopar stations.

I am also very in love with '61 Pioneer sedans and coupes but hey I am a member here now so I HAVE to buy a station wagon :p

It certainly does not have an $8300 steering wheel.

I can agree a bit with every one here.....It's not worth that kind of $ here BUT in the > Netherlands < that just mite be a sreaming deal "IF" it is'nt rusted under neeth etc.

This still reminds me of when I joined and saw what was being offered in other parts of N-America (including Canada) and what people were paying ( I thought they were nuts at times but location, location, location does have a impact on price.

I hope it turns out worth while for you.

I say follow your bliss. The dash is from outer space.

    But I have to ask....

Why... oh why... would you want to part with a fuselage styled mopar...? Can't you have both?

You just answered your own question. You should get it if you can afford it! :thumbs2:

This one looks complete, and everything lines up good, so if it doesn't have big rust issues, GO FOR IT!

    David :)

Nope, it's the Dutch customs admiring the car. This car is actually 600 miles and three countries from here and the previous owner happened to make a road trip with it to our country.

The reason I want to buy it is to go to their country for holiday so now I know it is used to round trips :p

The engine is a 318 Poly, thus the trip will still be extremely expensive (gasoline will set me back for $1000) but my Satellite is worse than that ($1400). This is assuming I only drive 2000 miles the whole holiday.

Besides the mileage problem I cannot go with my Satellite because:

    - it's too noisy (after an hour driving you're deaf from the resonating Flowmasters)
    - exhaust fumes are too bad (after an hour or more I can get a headache, if I drive longer my throat is hurting and if I drive even longer I get a bit high)
    - the front window leaks a bit and the roof and back too (when it rains hard my trousers are dripping wet)
    - the springs in back are original and cannot take any load. I do have new springs but they are monoleafs and I am not sure it is safe to place them.
    - I cannot open any windows because of the exhaust fumes and then we'll probably boil to death :p

The Virgil Exner styling has grown on me over the years(decades). When I was a kid a neighbor of ours had a very similar car to this wagon and seeing this reminded me of those simpler days.
If you are using it for long trips modernizing the ignition, carb and perhaps a different cam grind would be woth the money given the cost of fuel there.
That thing looked like a spacecraft here in it's day, I can only imagine the attention it must get in Europe.
